Meet Pierre Chapat of Pierre Catering and Rentals in Ventura County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pierre Chapat.

Pierre, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Worked at the age of eight years old peeling strawberries, potatoes and fish scales at the only Five Star Hotel in South Africa for my famous father Jean Pierre Chapat where I saw amazing huge buffets and whole Sharks as buffet center pieces. I went to a catering school in England in my teens and failed all the written exams. lol! I then worked at a private county club till I came to America at 20 years old.

I worked at several Westlake Village restaurants cooking table side and meeting a lot of famous people. I then moved to Tuscany Restaurant in the late 80’s and opened the Catering Department for Tomasso Barletta of Tuscany IL Restaurant’s famous high end clients whom wanted us to come to their homes as the food and personality of the staff was amazing.

I was let go in 1999 and opened my own catering company and just continued to serve for the elite in Westlake Village and Malibu. In the last ten years, I have been a partner of the Sushi Planet Restaurants, taking care of the Westlake Village location personally.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
lol! Not one day is normal in this business and cash flow is always an issue

Please tell us about Pierre Catering and Rentals.
I do whatever is needed. Preparing dishes, loading trucks, and designing menus.

Specializing in private dinners and weddings. My appetizers are amazing and most food is very unique in presentation

I have the same staff for over 13 years, unheard of in this industry. They were trained by me and I have to say, they are amazing.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
No. It’s always fun and exciting.
