Meet Phebe Starr

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phebe Starr.

Phebe, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started in music since I was in high school. I’m from Australia and we have a radio station called Triple J. They have this cool platform where they discover new music called unearthed. I put my demos online and have been kicking it as a musician every since. I recently moved to L.A after a break up. I’ve been on the run hiding out here since November last year.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I came here for a writing camp for two weeks and just stayed 😉 I always wanted to live here and have visited a few times but when I came in November I feel like the city was like ‘Hey Phebe, we love you, you should stay’. So I did. We have been great friends so far but we haven’t had our first fight yet.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I make music for myself and for other artists. I play a few instruments, write and produce music. I make songs for Film, TV, for the brokenhearted and people who like to escape. I also make my own videos and occasionally shoot for others. I guess I’m your modern DIY creative that does what I want. I’m also a part of ‘Our Secret Handshake’ a company started by my manager Jade. She cares deeply about empowering female-identifying & minority talent, helping them build their unique platforms and strong community around them. I’m lucky to have such a great group of creatives around me.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Doing what I want and getting away with it.
