Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Kopelson MD.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Peter. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in New York City and in Beverly Hills, California and attended Beverly Hills High School. I completed my undergraduate training at Columbia Universtiy where I majored in philosophy and concentrated on my pre-medical courses. I was accepted into New York University School of Medicine where I obtained my Medical Doctor degree. I remained at N.Y.U. School of Medicine for my internship in Internal Medicine, spending much of my time at Bellevue Hospital. I then moved back to the west coast to study dermatology and dermatologic surgery at University of California, Los Angeles, School of Medicine, I completed my dermatology residency and served as chief dermatology resident.
I am a diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology, specializing in cosmetic procedures and laser treatments. I am licensed to practice medicine and surgery in the states of California and New York and have been in private practice in Beverly Hills, California since 1993.
I am a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a member of the International Society of Cosmetic Laser Surgeons and the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery.
As chief resident in the dermatology division at U.C.L.A., I perfected my diagnostic skills through teaching and research. Although The Kopelson Clinic is an advanced cosmetic dermatological laser center, I continue to see patients who require a highly trained medical dermatologist especially for the diagnosis of skin cancers and the more complex medical diseases that manifest on the skin.
Whereas most medical specialists begin their specialty training after medical school and internship, I began my dermatologic training early in medical school. By working closely with a world-renowned dermatologist and researcher at New York University School of Medicine, I aided in the cutting-edge investigation, wrote journal articles, and participated in the international dermatological community starting very early in my career. I was therefore well prepared for my specialty training at the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Medicine.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In general, it’s been a smooth road. Although at the beginning, like many other businesses starting up, it was a struggle financially.
Please tell us about The Kopelson Clinic.
I specialize in all forms of cosmetic dermatology: minimally invasive cosmetic procedures and lasers. Lasers are a big part of my business. We treat anything from scars to redness, brown spots, wrinkles, hair removal, etc. What sets my business apart is the personalization that patients receive when they enter my office. They are made to feel taken care of and at home. Also, the vast number of lasers I own allows me to treat almost any condition that lasers are able to treat.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I might not have acquired four dogs!
