Meet Pete Molinari of Stylish Tramp

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pete Molinari.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a self-employed artist. A musician, singer, songwriter, playwright, and have released records with various record labels and published a collection of illustrated lyrics and poems and am releasing a new album of material in July and publishing a novel.

I have extensively toured the world playing music solo and acoustic and with a band. My music has featured in films and on radio and tv across the world. I am signed to newly formed Los Angeles Label ‘We Are Hear’ that was formed by artist Linda Perry and Producer Kerry Brown. They are also releasing a feature Studio recording and film shot at Capitol Studios Hollywood with Don Was featuring Ronnie Spector, Jakob Dylan, Evan Rachel Wood, and Linda Perry.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A true artists road I don’t believe is ever a smooth road and there are always obstacles to overcome. The biggest one being himself and getting out of the way so that we can create. I’ve always faced challenges but I see it that those challenges and that conflict may have given what I wrote about a lot more depth and substance. There have always been many challenges and obstacle from day one. I chose the road less traveled by and was aware that wasn’t going to make it easy. Instead of visiting record labels with my latest recording and seeing who was interested, I traveled around playing as many cafes as I could. So that people would come to me rather than I go to them. I read far too many romantic tales about the classical and jazz artists of the past and that influenced me a lot in my decision making.

Stylish Tramp – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the others?
I have a little book company stamp called “Stylish Tramp’ which I formed mainly for literature publications but I like it being stamped on anything that I release. Stylish Tramp is influenced by the street performer and pointing to the fact that often the best art is on the street rather than in the big establishments, galleries, and theatres. I commented to a girlfriend while in Paris that even the tramps looked stylish. It’s a little influenced by my love of Charlie Chaplin and his films also. It’s unique in the fact that it’s all my work and writings and my own perception of the world.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’m not sure about pride. Pride comes before a fall as they say and I try not to be proud about things but let’s say something I was pleased with? There are many things. It’s all part of the journey. From playing my first show to my first recording.

I think a big moment for me recently was the fact that I used to walk past Capitol Studios in Hollywood and think about Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Judy Garland and others that recorded there and dream looking up at that building that one day I would too. And then I made a. Full-Length film and recording there. Was a beautiful moment and realization that if you can think it, feel it, imagine it, dream it, and be inspired enough to believe it and work for it, then you can manifest it.
