Meet Penny Johnson of O’Connell Dermatology in Torrance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Penny Johnson.

Penny, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was raised in a small town in Arkansas where I met Dave, my husband from California, and then made my way to the South Bay. My skin care career started when I applied for a receptionist position at O’Connell Dermatology. I approached Dr. O’Connell with an idea about a skincare product line. Recognizing how passionate I was about skin care, Dr. O’Connell encouraged me to pursue my aesthetician license. He also encouraged me to develop my ideas of creating a skin care line product along with managing an entire skin care department within the practice. Sixteen years later, O’Connell Dermatology has grown into one of the most recognized dermatological and skin care centers in the South Bay. We are best known for our high level of passion for effective results and client care along with our individualized approach to skin care health and beauty.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road, as the skin care industry is constantly changing. There are always new treatments, products, services, and technology, so it can be difficult to fully grasp all of the newest, latest and most proven modalities. I strive to recognize and provide the very best results for my clients in a forever changing market, which can be challenging.

O’Connell Dermatology is proud to provide effective skincare solutions for women and men of every age and ethnicity. Dr. James O’Connell is a Board Certified Dermatologist with over 30 years experience. We have been helping clients in the South Bay look their best for over 15 years. Our skin line is a medical grade, pharmaceutical strength product formulated in an FDA clinically regulated laboratory. We are a results driven practice that strives for proven treatments and products that are backed by research and are consistent and safe for all skin types.

I customize each of my client’s treatment plans to get the best-individualized results. I am best known for being able to truly connect with each of my clients, understand their needs and develop combination treatment plans that are effective in helping them along their journey to beautiful skin. My proudest accomplishment is “Spa Day” which sets us apart from other dermatology practices in the South Bay. Over the past 10 years, we have hosted 20 Spa Days at our practice, which is our way to give back to our clients and community. Each “Spa Day” is uniquely themed and includes generous gift bags, raffle prizes, and most importantly complimentary treatments. Throughout the year, I research the newest products and best devices to bring to Spa Day. Our team sets up numerous “beauty stations” at our practice providing clients a first class experience with each and every treatment. We are privileged to have had such tremendous success at each “Spa Day” and look forward to many more in the future.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is mastering your craft. I have mastered my own techniques and constantly travel to learn the newest treatments to integrate into our practice. I am frequently called upon by skin care companies to provide my feedback and expertise on various products.
