Meet Pedro Martinez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pedro Martinez.

Pedro, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Photography for me all started when I had a music blog, it got to the point where I was being asked to photograph shows. At the time, I didn’t own a camera and had no idea what I was doing. I decided rented one and taught myself. From there I was shooting at festivals and shows all around LA and Long Beach. I really enjoyed it and got to meet a lot of people. After a while, the partying got to be a little too much so I decided to stop my music blog and focus my photography on shooting models. There’s more structure now and it fits my lifestyle a lot better now that I’m older. It’s a way to stay creative.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There’s ups and downs with everything in life. One of the biggest struggles was when my camera got stolen and I didn’t shoot for a year. The struggle now is finding time to shoot with models since I am mostly available on weekends. There are times that it can take months to get a shoot together. I am glad for all the patience I get from the models.

Please tell us about Pedro Martinez Photography.
A lot of people on the internet know me and my company as pedrothehuman, but its Pedro Martinez Photography. I mostly do lifestyle shots along with my wife, she styles a majority of my shoots. My photography has been featured in a few publications here and there, so I am pretty proud of that. I really enjoy doing my color vision portrait series, I think they are pretty unique to anything out there right now.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
That’s hard to say because I have enjoyed every part of it. I think maybe being able to network more, I am pretty shy when it comes to that. I would have loved to learn film photography earlier in my shooting career.
