Meet Pearl Williams of Luxe Glam Studios by QueenPeaa in The City of Artesia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pearl Williams.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Pearl. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My Mother had just a small makeup bag, and her makeup was only done occasionally, therefore I never experienced her sitting down and making herself up. I’ve always loved lipgloss and eyeliner, however, the turning point for me was getting my makeup done for my first homecoming dance as a high school freshman. This was back in 2005. My brother’s girlfriend at the time was in cosmetology school and offered to do my makeup. Albeit the application wasn’t extravagant, it was the first time since my prepubescent years that I felt genuinely beautiful and undoubtedly confident when I looked in the mirror. That feeling has always stuck with me and it’s inspired me to want to share that feeling with other young women, the feeling of being glamorous. I started collecting things such as books, brushes, palettes, you name it!

I was actually pretty good without much practice. I assisted with my first shoot at the age of 16 and the rest, as they say, is history. I’ve been doing makeup ever since and I’m now 29 years old. Despite the losses I’ve taken and how hard it has been at times, I am grateful to have a healthy beautiful little girl, a new business that I was able to open amidst this pandemic (Luxe Glam Studios), I’ve been very blessed. I’m a licensed cosmetologist of 9 years, I’ve been able to work on shows like Love and Hip Hop Hollywood and even landed the Key MUA position for Black Ink Compton. Now I’m in the process of becoming a licensed esthetician so that I can provide skin care services and knowledge to the women in my community.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. In about 2015/2016, my career had really started to take off. My following on social media was growing, I was being noticed and everything was great. It was also the same year I would get pregnant with my beautiful baby girl Jade Blu and I would lose my oldest brother and have a battle with postpartum depression. I had just been invited back to work another season of Love and Hip Hop Hollywood and I had to stop working because I ended up battling severe morning sickness (I lost 35 pounds). I had to slow down and make sure I was taking care of my mind and my body. Nevertheless, I was blessed and the opportunities still came but it was difficult.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Luxe Glam Studios by QueenPeaa – what should we know?
Luxe Glam Studio was created because I wanted to create a safe space for women, black women especially. My goal and mission with this studio is to have a space that embodies the luxurious dynamic of getting your makeup done and taking time to care for yourself. Even though I have clients of all races, my goal is to normalize experiencing luxury for black women. We need a space to relax. We deserve a space for us. We need a place of solitude, a place where us woman collectively can share a common vibe, uplift each other, a place you can rely on to remind you how beautiful and wonderful of a woman you are, to receive confirmation where places in the outside world you look for it and can’t find it. I believe that there is a healing dynamic to being a beauty professional and I want to heal and help women that look like me because we DESERVE it. Currently, I only offer makeup and brow services but I’m hoping to start offering facials and full body waxing really soon!! So exciting!!!!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel like being resilient is most important to my success. Being a beauty professional in this industry, you never really know what hand you’re going to be dealt and you have to be able to get back up and keep going in those moments when it feels like it’s impossible. I really love what it is that I do and I always make sure that I give it 110%. I have a real desire to help women and I have never lost sight of why I started doing this in the first place.
