Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Pratt.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am successful because I successfully listened.
As a personal trainer in LA, I have been in this profession since October 2013, but really learning how to train properly and motivate since I was a child. From my dad being a bodybuilder, teaching me how to lift and also being my track coach throughout my youth years, training has always been in my DNA. Fast forward to high school track and field at Taft 2003, and having 3 Hall of Fame track coaches to learn from in Quincy Watts (Olympic Gold 400m medalist in 1992), Johnny Gray (World record holder in the 800) and my most inspirational coach Maurice Greene (Olympic 100m Gold Medalist in 2000 and was still the fastest man on the planet) I cannot be where I’m at without the MENtorship of these three-track icons and them taking time to show me the way to success physical and mentally.
In 2009, I was able to train with another phenomenal athlete and Hall of Famer Darell Green of the Washington Redskins ( spent 20 years with that organization); learning and soaking everything that made him great gave me the direction to enter into the door back into the NFL, and his connections being the main reason I was with the Detroit Lions from 2009-2011. I name all these impactful figures in my life from my father to professional athletes because with all the knowledge I’ve accumulated over the years from each person, I’ve created my own system of training. My foundation of my training is directed correlated to those people and I am grateful each day for them. They have given me so much without asking for a dime back or recognition that all the young boys, girls athletes, regular soccer moms and dad I train; when I see them succeed, I never looked or asked for credit because I believe my God-given gift is special and all the credit should for me be pointed only Above.
If there is one thing I would want to encourage people to do, is too always exalts others and let others eventually exalt you. Put others first, help when you can, motivate and be positive when you don’t feel like it, be a leader sometimes by letting others lead. Take responsibility for everything, and don’t let excuses prevent you from solutions. Be transparent, be honest, be grateful, be content with everything, and never try to impress everyone. Remain the same person behind closed doors as you are in public and you will never have to worry about living a lie. All these things I practice is daily, and at times I fail. But staying consistent to your core moral foundation will always eventually bring you back to the basics when chaos is all around you and you still able to be brave and remain strong in “the pocket” (as we say for QB’s in football). And lastly, there’s one thing we all can do better, is to love ourselves more than anyone could ever love you, then you will be free to love others more than yourself.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Pride and comparing myself to others, not staying in my God-given lane has always detoured me… The higher level of distractions creates a lower level of focus.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the 2nd Wind Performance LLC story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in a few different things in my training profession. One is what I call “mindset training”, body general strengthening/Prehab, and SPEED! I’m probably most known for speed training cause I make people faster and my nickname is Dr. Speed! But what I’m most proud of about my training is my PREHAB, which I tell my clients if we stay in PREHAB, we stay out of rehab. Prehab is injury prevention training and what I most proud of is that clients who always got injured don’t get hurt anymore or clients who had injuries are healed. I believe on how much I pay attention to the details of my clients is what sets me apart; and I record everything on video so they can watch for themselves and get better on their own.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck, everything that is supposed to happen and needs to happen. I either win or learn.
