Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Bina.
Paul, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Our printing shop began with a single printer and single employee.
Today, over 34 years later, we are still a family owned business and have over 20 employees and 7 presses: offset, digital and large format. We have become one of the premier commercial printers in Los Angeles, serving the nonprofit, event production, apparel, studio and restaurant industries.
The quality of our work is award-winning: Design Printing has won awards in many categories, including the foremost award, the Benny, for over 14 years in a row. These awards are presented by the Print Industry Association of Southern California, our peers in this field. We are proud of the work we do and our printing partners and clients.
Our services go beyond printing; we offer custom die cutting, finishing options and binding.
Design Printing was one of the very first printing houses to embrace ‘green’ printing, offering a wide variety of recycled paper stocks, low-emission inks, digital presses and a comprehensive recycling program. We have been certified as a Green Business by Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Green business program, establishing rigorous standards for sustainable business practices.
Design Printing has come a long way since those early days, truly showing the opportunity and success business can achieve with hard work, dedication and care for our customers.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
With all businesses, we react and respond to the business landscape that surrounds us.
We started out so small and worked hard to gain the trust of our customers. Over time we have learned what is important for our client’s needs: attention to detail, first class customer service, pricing and timely delivery.
The advent of web based printing has been both a challenge and a blessing: we have to sharpen our pencils to provide the best value yet maintain the quality standards that have been our hallmark since the beginning.
As the needs of our customer’s change and evolve, Design Printing must grow with them.
Changing products, quantities and technology mean that we must stay ahead of the curve.
While we are very happy with our work and customer base, we strive to do more, faster and better.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are known for our first quality, custom printing projects. Whether it is an invitation package, presentation folder, flyer or brochure, we assure our client’s satisfaction from file to final output.
Having a specialty focus with nonprofit organizations has distinguished Design Printing; we understand the requirements that are specialized to their concerns with design, budget, turnaround time. We offer binding and finishing options that can extend the look and feel our products beyond paper and ink.
Coordinating all the elements of a print project including signs and banners, allows our customers to see a seamless project from start to finish.
Including options for mailing and fulfillment enhance the work we provide for our clients; Design Printing streamlines the project work from start to finish.
What were you like growing up?
I was initially interested in architecture growing up in Iran. But life changed many things for our family and when we left to come to the US; my dreams had to take a back seat to caring for my parents and siblings.
The attention to detail and order that I loved about architecture carried over to the printing business; I could be creative while providing a necessary service to companies around me. Firms that cared about our community, our environment and other important causes were attractive to us as they shared out interests and values.
As the printing business grew, I was able to include members of my family to work with me. My brother is my vice president, my sister works with clients and other members of the family have supported our growth. We are proud of the profile we have been able to establish in Los Angeles among the nonprofit community.
In the meantime, I love soccer, basketball and football!
