Meet Patty Reid of US Cryotherapy Studio City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patty Reid.

Patty, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Two years ago, I was like most people. I had zero idea of what Whole Body Cryotherapy was. A friend of mine, who was going for hip pain, convinced me to go try a session with her. I had been complaining about pain in my hands and lower back. For months, my hands had been waking me up tingling and throbbing and I was constantly throwing my back out in exercise classes, or putting on my pajama bottoms. Seriously.

It sounded brutal: Walking into a chamber colder than the coldest place on earth, wearing next to nothing for 3 long minutes is not my idea of fun. My friend finally wore me down and I decided to take the plunge. My initial goal was survival. I hate being cold. HATE. On the drive home I noticed that I felt good. REALLY good. The next morning, I could not wait to go back. I decided to give this new therapy a shot so I signed up for 20 sessions.

After two weeks, I woke up one morning and realized that I had slept through the night. No issues with my hands. I started telling friends. Literally none of them had heard of cryotherapy. My commute was over the hill and anyone from LA knows you don’t want to go over the hill for a therapy that is only 3 minutes. I took my family and friends in for their first sessions.

My daughter was away at college and my nest was EMPTY. Not knowing what my next step would be, I decided to follow my passion. My passion had become cryotherapy and I wanted to bring it to my side of the hill. Selfishly, no more sitting nose to nose on Laurel Canyon.

I then started doing research. This is when I found US Cryotherapy and visited their corporate headquarters base in Northern California in October of 2015. I reached out to a friend of mine Susan Sagheb, who has her BA in Economics from UCLA and completed her CPA certification with Coopers & Lybrand. We opened US Cryotherapy Studio City in August of 2016.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The largest challenge has been educating the public about what cryotherapy is and its benefits. We were extremely lucky in hiring an excellent staff who share our passion. Over 50% of our business comes from word of mouth, so you want to make sure people are having an amazing experience. That can be tough. You are asking someone to walk into subzero temperatures and convince them that they are going to feel GREAT. I wanted this business to be a place that is a home away from home for the customers. A place where they could come and feel loved and cared for. Where they weren’t only getting the benefits of cryotherapy, but also visiting family and friends. It had to be COOL. (pun intended).

So, as you know, we’re impressed with US Cryotherapy Studio City – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
US Cryotherapy, Studio City, provides Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC). WBC is the exposure of subzero temperatures to the skin. Cryotherapy is an age-old modality for the treatment of pain and inflammation.

The extreme cold causes the release of endorphins, the body’s natural pain inhibitors and mood elevators, while the enhanced circulation decreases inflammation by clearing toxins and metabolic waste.

Cold therapy seems like a relatively new therapy, but it’s actually been used for over 40 years in Europe and Japan. Currently, it receives a lot of attention due to elite athletes and actors, such as LeBron James and Demi Moore, proclaiming the benefits of muscle-recovery and the positive effects on visible signs of aging. But it’s not just for the ultra-active and super famous. It’s for anyone seeking an alternative to support energy levels, reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and improve sleep.

While the WBC feels cold right away, the time passes quickly. You are able to move around the chamber and we encourage people to make it a shared experience with friends or family. It is a wonderful addition to your health routine. Like any therapy, it takes commitment and most clients see the best results when they come consistently.

US Cryotherapy was the first and remains the only company in the US offering Whole Body, walk in cryotherapy using non-forced-air cooling. Our systems are safer because they do not use liquid nitrogen.

If you read our Yelp, FB, and google reviews, you will learn that we have accomplished what we set out to do. Our members actually look forward to coming in. Who could ask for more than that?

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I would love to continue to grow this business and educate more people about the benefits of cryotherapy. Helping people is a wonderful way to spend your day.
