Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrycia Canatan.
Patrycia , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Originally from Gdansk, Poland, my journey began in the world of ballet. After finishing ballet school, I first stepped into a career as a dancer. But as I performed, I quickly realized that my passion was actually calling me toward the hospitality industry.
In 1998, I took a leap and moved to New York, where I worked my way up through the hotel industry, eventually becoming a manager. That chapter laid the foundation for my next adventure. In 2013, I relocated to Los Angeles and had the privilege of opening several hotels. My most recent project was leading the launch of The Aster: Boutique Hotel & Members’ Club in Hollywood, a property that perfectly reflects my passion for creating welcoming and memorable spaces.
In 2022, my journey took a deeply personal turn when my mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Faced with this reality, I made the heartfelt decision to leave the hospitality world entirely so I could be with her. During those few months by her side, I found the inspiration and determination to build my own travel boutique agency, Haus of Nomads Travel. When I created my travel agency, I wanted a name that truly reflected what I aim to offer my clients: a sense of belonging and the joy of discovery.
‘Haus’ represents a warm and welcoming place, a home base for planning extraordinary journeys. ‘Nomads’ captures the spirit of adventure and the desire to explore the world. Together, HAUS OF NOMADS TRAVEL embodies the perfect blend of comfort and wanderlust, offering personalized travel experiences that feel both intimate and transformative.
Thanks to my extensive background in the hospitality industry and the deep relationships I’ve built with my clients over the years, I now have the opportunity to serve not only corporate and entertainment clients but also to craft deeply personalized leisure itineraries. With a focus on Europe, I specialize in art and culture–centered travel, thoughtfully designing each itinerary to align with the individual tastes and desires of every client.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has certainly not always been smooth. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve faced moments of uncertainty, sacrifice, and reinvention. Transitioning from a career in hospitality to launching my own travel boutique was both exciting and daunting. Building a business from the ground up required me to step into unfamiliar territory – learning new systems, managing operations independently, and taking on the risks that come with entrepreneurship.
On a personal level, one of the most profound challenges was in 2022, when my mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I made the difficult decision to step away from my hospitality career to care for her during her final months. That period was incredibly painful but also transformative – it gave me the clarity and courage to build Haus of Nomads Travel, rooted in passion and purpose.
Financial risks, industry disruptions like the pandemic, and the pressure of wearing many hats as a small business owner have all been part of the journey. But each obstacle has taught me resilience, strengthened my adaptability, and reaffirmed my commitment to creating meaningful travel experiences.
We’ve been impressed with HAUS OF NOMADS TRAVEL , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Haus of Nomads Travel is a boutique, hands-on travel agency based in Los Angeles, founded after more than two decades in the hospitality industry. We specialize in art- and culture-focused travel throughout Europe, meticulously curating each itinerary to reflect the individual style, pace, and personal interests of every traveler we serve. What sets us apart is the depth and breadth of our expertise. In addition to bespoke leisure and corporate travel, we offer tailored medical tourism services, with a particular focus on Turkey and Costa Rica. Whether our clients seek cultural enrichment, wellness retreats, or world-class medical care abroad, they can rely on us to design thoughtful, seamless journeys that align with their unique needs.
As the founder of Haus of Nomads Travel, I bring a deeply personal approach to every experience. I’ve personally visited each European destination where we maintain trusted partnerships, allowing me to provide my clients with insider access, authentic recommendations, and an unmatched level of care. This hands-on knowledge is the foundation of the highly customized journeys we’re known for.
From luxury hotels, private villas, and wellness escapes to seamless travel logistics—flights, transfers, and insurance we manage every detail with precision and intention. Through our global affiliations, we’re proud to offer exclusive benefits such as VIP upgrades, early check-ins, spa and dining credits, and other perks that elevate every journey.
More than anything, I’m proud of the trust we’ve built with our clients. Many return time and again, confident they’ll receive thoughtful service and meaningful experiences they won’t find elsewhere.
For me, Haus of Nomads Travel isn’t just about planning trips — it’s about curating soulful, memorable experiences that connect people to the world in a way that stays with them long after they’ve returned home.
What’s next?
Looking ahead, my focus is on expanding the reach of Haus of Nomads Travel and deepening the ways we serve our clients. I plan to grow our medical tourism offerings in destinations like Turkey and Costa Rica, while continuing to design custom-made leisure and corporate itineraries across Europe and the United States & Mexico.
Another exciting goal is to deepen our global partnerships, allowing us to offer clients even greater access to exclusive experiences and elevated amenities—whether it’s luxury accommodations, ocean or river cruises, wellness retreats, or curated cultural and artistic tours.
I am deeply committed to responsible tourism and ocean-cleaning initiatives, as well as to fostering greater awareness around purposeful travel – helping clients not only explore the world but also feel restored by it.
Ultimately, what I look forward to most is continuing to craft meaningful journeys, expanding my team’s expertise, and solidifying Haus of Nomads Travel as a trusted name for those seeking truly personalized, high-quality travel experiences.
