Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Lennon, Rene Agee and Eduardo Queiroz.
Patrick, Rene and Eduardo, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We were just a couple of creative fashion entrepreneurs hanging out around ten years ago in our little studio garage we like to now call the “Garagement” and were chatting about how overly branded all clothing was, specifically hoodies. You couldn’t walk into a store without seeing a hoodie plastered in bright-colored branded logos. We always preferred simple, not letting the brand define us but actually the opposite. And with that, Klothwork was born. The name defines the “Kloth on your back and the Work you do yourself to make it cool without a flashy brand printed across your chest. Of course, there were blank apparel companies at the time but they mainly marketed to wholesalers that would buy their blanks for the sole purpose of printing logos on them. We manufactured our blanks and that was the brand. It caught on fast and now the “no name” products are cool. We make high-quality apparel at an affordable price point. Our consumers get to fit in where they want, hence our tagline: Klothwork – “Wear do you FiT in?”
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Breaking into the apparel industry definitely wasn’t easy. There are so many “brands” out there to compete with and they have deep pockets to stay on the top. We always believed in the grassroots approach and never really focused on how much money we were making but more on how many times we saw someone wearing our gear out on the street or somewhere on social media. Our success was seeing others stoked to flaunt Klothwork. We didn’t have a huge marketing budget so we had to be smart and patient. This was probably the biggest hurdle. We owe most of our success to those that we were close to and those that were close to them. From the day Klothwork was born, our network of supporters were the ones that really pushed our hoodies to everyone they knew and when you make a quality product, it’s easily recommendable to friends. We appealed to those that were never really paid attention to so once our name caught the wind, it really set sail. We love what we do and consumers love our product.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Klothwork – what should we know?
Klothwork is a respected retail and wholesale supplier of quality blank apparel for men, women & kids. With over 40 different styles of hoodies, sweatshirts, outerwear and activewear, we really have something for everyone, even cozy fleece blankets. Our team also specializes in custom orders and can help others build a brand from concept to creation. We think what sets us apart from most apparel companies is that we’re straight up honest and have some of the best manufacturing relationships in the market. There’s so many shady companies out there that are looking for the cheapest fabrics overseas and only concentrate on their profit margins. There’s nothing worse than putting on a hoodie that feels cheap so why would we want to build an empire on that? If we won’t wear it ourselves, why would we sell it to you?
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Besides our ability to stay best friends as well as business partners, we think we owe a lot of our success to our group of extremely loyal friends and family. We always made our own rules and even before we started Klothwork, any venture we took on was supported by our group. We’re all just nice people, motivated to succeed so we attract others of that same mindset. When you have a group that exudes what we have, others gravitate towards you, so our community has grown quite a bit over the years. When we launched Klothwork it was almost like our friends were more excited than we were so what better way to hit the ground running. That kind of support is priceless and most have to pay for that by hiring a PR firm.
