Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Musselman
Hi Patricia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
IT ALL STARTED WHEN…
…as a young girl, I spent my summers in Brazil, where I got to experience the luxury of regular salon blowouts. I fell in love with the experience — the relaxation, the confidence boost, and the effortless beauty of having my hair professionally styled. I thought, “Why do it yourself when you can enjoy this at the salon?” It sparked a dream in me to bring this concept to the U.S. someday.
Years later, that dream became a reality. When the opportunity to open my own salon came along, I jumped at it, and Belo Blow Dry Bar was born in Laguna Beach. What began as a blow-dry bar quickly grew as clients began asking for more services. We listened to their requests, and today, we proudly offer a full range of services, from blowouts and event styling to cuts, color, extensions, and Brazilian blowouts.
My journey in the industry spans over 24 years, beginning at Legends, which later became Salon74. I spent 14 amazing years there before opening my own salon in Laguna Beach in 2014. Nine years later, I came full circle, seizing the opportunity to acquire the salon where it all began. Today, Belo Salon is not just a place for hair — it’s a community built on creativity, care, and beauty.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Owning my business has come with its share of challenges, especially when it comes to building the right team. Finding the perfect stylists who align with our values and vision has been a journey in itself. And, of course, navigating the impact of COVID was a significant struggle. But I believe that overcoming these kinds of hardships has strengthened our team and shown me that, with resilience, we can face anything that comes our way.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In my role as the owner of two salons, I not only manage the operations almost entirely on my own, but I also work directly with clients behind the chair two days a week. I think what really sets me apart is the passion and dedication I put into my work. I pour my heart and soul into everything I do, and I truly value each member of our salon family. I understand firsthand the challenges of this industry because I’m right there alongside my team, serving clients and staying connected to the work we do together.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love about our city is that it’s one of the most beautiful beach towns in South Orange County. It has a unique charm, with amazing local restaurants and a welcoming atmosphere. The only downside is that during the summer, we see large crowds coming into town, which can make things feel chaotic. Unfortunately, some visitors don’t always take care of our beaches, which can impact the beauty we work hard to preserve.
