Meet Patricia Guerrera of Tru Beauty in Santa Barbara

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Guerrera.

Patricia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and grew up in Italy. I was surrounded by artists from my grandmother and my uncle. They  were a big influence to me to become a makeup artist.

As I grew up, I worked in various retail makeup counters across the country.  I loved making up faces to enhance women’s beauty. Shortly after I decided to get my esthetician license. I was very interested in learning more about skincare. I feel” Tru Beauty ” starts from within. When u take care of your skin makeup will look even more flawless.

Make-up took me to many places. I traveled doing makeup with my sister’s makeup line sold at all the Barney New York stores nationwide. After 20 years, I decided to open my own business.

Tru Beauty was born! I felt it was time. I learned so much through my makeup journey to feel confident enough to have my own business.  I couldn’t have done that earlier in my career. All those experiences led me to having my own business. It’s definitely has been an  amazing experience.  It really teaches you what you’re made of.  Lots of sacrifices and hard work but, it’s all worth it and always pays off.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road to success for sure. There were alot of bumps along the way.

I remember when I was in esthetician school it had closed after almost completing my course. I had to study on my own to prepare for state board test.

But, I didn’t give up I knew I needed to pass the test and get my esthetician license. Because it would help me be successful in my beauty career that I could always depend on.

I knew as little girl  I always wanted to be a make-up artist so I couldn’t let this stand in my way.

Once I passed  I took  continued education courses to help me sharpen my skills to further my career.

I believe in keeping education alive. I learned how to wax alot better by watching videos and practicing on friends. I had alot of brave friends to be my guinea pig lol!

When you have your own business it takes  lots of discipline and self-motivation to not give up when things get hard. You have to keep going and keep reinventing yourself through your work to grow your business. Sometimes you feel like giving up but don’t!  You really find out what your made of when life tests you..

Within my field, I was very fortunate to able to travel national.

I worked on weddings, print work, photoshoots, fashion shows and independent films . Over the years I didn’t stop learning and kept up with the latest trends in fashion and different makeup techniques and I took a lash extensions course to add to my beauty services.

Remember, do what you love to do and it will never feel like work.

Please tell us about Tru Beauty.
I’m a licensed esthetician.

My specialty is brow waxing and shaping. Makeup artistry and lash extensions.

I also teach waxing and  lash extensions classes to help others create a new career or continue education in the beauty industry.

I’m proud to have started my business from scratch on my own with very little income. I’m still able to be successful all these years in my field with my born talent. Especially during this pandemic. I’m still able to support myself under trying conditions.

I’m proud not to have giving up through hard times, but instead find other ways to re-invent myself within my field  to make lucretive income . It helps to stay flexible and be able to flow with the times.

I feel what’s sets me apart from others is having Tru passion for what I do. Taking pride in what I do and making people happy.  Listening to my clients needs and doing an exceptional job everytime. Don’t be lazy and no shortcuts!

Being part of their special day and special events through makeup is very rewarding.

It’s  not just my  job it’s part of my life.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Growing up Italy we went to the beach for the month of August. Our family and other relatives were there for one month camping out in style.  Eating homemade Italian food and waking up to the  beautiful  Mediterranean Sea was amazing experience!
