Meet Pasadena Interior Designer: Annie Callesta Soetaniman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Annie Callesta Soetaniman.

Annie Callesta, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My obsession with interior design started when I was 11 years old. Before going into the design industry, I tried to learn business for almost 2 years. Why? Because I didn’t know what I wanted to do at the time and since business is always the safest route to go to, I just went with it. I didn’t like it nor did I enjoy it, so I decided to pursue my career in interior design. I regret not doing it sooner but I also believe that going to school and exploring yourself is never a waste of time. Not only did I get to learn more, I also met people who became my best friends until today. Life is about discovering yourself and learning from your experience. I have always been hardworking and optimistic and I am proud of all of my achievements. I believe that it’s never too late to chase your dreams and that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. It’s also important to appreciate just how far you’ve come.

Has it been a smooth road?
I ‘d say it has been an interesting journey. This path really takes a lot of your time, beauty sleep is your enemy!

Has there been people or an institution that has played a pivotal role in your career?
I went to FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) to get my degree in interior design. During my studies there, I can honestly say that I was surrounded by such talented and inspiring people. I think seeing people work and grow in doing what they love was what inspired me most. And of course, my parents who, until today, always tell me to dare to dream. They have been my support since day 1.

Do you have a favorite type of client or project?
I definitely love doing residential projects. Residential focuses on someone’s personality and personal taste, which I like because often relationships are built. And designing someone else’s home feels different because it’s where they’ll spend most of their time at and I’d be the one designing it.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you were just starting out?
Because I didn’t know just how important building your career was, I often took things lightly. That’s something I wish I could change.
