Today we’d like to introduce you to Ian Lang and Nelson Huang.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ian and Nelson. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We first came across to OsteoStrong at an event in Chicago back in 2018. The CEO of the company was on the stage with great energy and excitement, explaining the benefits of the OsteoStrong modality and how it could improve our quality of life by strengthening our bones at any age and reducing joint and back pain. Having family members who were experiencing deconditioned health issues such as osteoporosis and osteoarthritis, we decided to give it a try when we came back to LA.
At that point, I had been working in the corporate world for almost 20 years. The meeting-after-meeting sedentary lifestyle gave me nothing but a terrible lower back issue that had been bothering me for over ten years. I had tried many therapies, including eastern and western modalities. The pain relief was always temporary.
When I started OsteoStrong, I had no expectations as I was told that it was not a medical service. Having no osteoporosis, I could only trust how I felt after using it to decide if my family can benefit from it. After a few sessions (each one not taking any longer than 15 minutes) of pushing and pulling using the system, I thought that nothing was happening and this system was not for me. It was only until after sitting for over two hours in a meeting that I suddenly came to the realization that I was missing an old friend of mine – my lower back pain! That was the moment when I became a true believer of the OsteoStrong modality – a system based on science called Wolff’s Law that can be traced back to the 18 century.
With no OsteoStrong centers close to us, we decided to open our own OsteoStrong center – the first one in the San Gabriel Valley. After a six-month preparation and training, our center opened in Pasadena in May 2019. The community showed great interest in OsteoStrong and we had close to 200 members visiting weekly right before the pandemic. I still remember how it felt when our first member brought back her DXA scan report and showed us the improvements in her bone density. She no longer had osteoporosis! It is the most rewarding part of what I do when members clearly see improvements in their health. Nothing can be more exciting than knowing that we played a part in improving the quality of their lives and seeing them become better, stronger versions of themselves!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like most new businesses, it was not a smooth road to us. Most people had some level of skepticism at the beginning. But most of them can experience some differences after a few sessions.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the OsteoStrong Pasadena story. Tell us more about the business.
Today people call things such as OsteoStrong BioHack – a very elaborate and articulate term that tells us we can actually hack our brain and let it work in the way to benefit our health and wellness goals – just as simple as when our body sweat to workout, or our pupil dilates to darkness and brightness. At OsteoStrong, we do triggering events and the brain will take care of the rest to recondition our body from there.
The benefit of doing OsteoStrong may include increase in bone density, increase in muscle strength, improvement in glucose response, reduction of joint and muscle pain, enhanced metabolic energy, improved joint mobility, balance, agility and athletic performance, as well as injury prevention.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We really put our feet down to work, especially since the pandemic started-some really bad luck, if you will.
