Meet Omid Rejali of Rejali Law Firm, APLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Omid Rejali.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Omid. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in the United States. When I was seven years old, my family decided to move back to Tehran, Iran. I went to school in Tehran until I was 17. At 17, because of the mandatory military service and because I could not tolerate living there anymore, I chose to move back to United States by myself.

Below is a timeline of how I started my business and the adversities I had to overcome:

2003: Moved to the U.S. alone to go to college
2003-2004: Lived in San Jose, California-First Job at Burlington Coat Factory in the Shoe Department-Had a dream of becoming a trial lawyer
2004-2005: Lived in Houston, Texas-Worked at Gap, GNC and 24 hour Fitness while attending community college
2005-Moved to San Diego to attend University of San Diego-Worked at Aldo shoe store
2007-Diagnosed with Bipolar 1 disorder
2008:Graduated from University of San Diego-Worked at a luggage store
2008-2009: Took the LSAT 4 times, the highest score I ever received was a 142
2009-2012: Graduated from Law School-Worked at the library all throughout school, and at different law firms
2012-2014: Failed the bar exam three times. Continued working at different law firms
2014: REJALI LAW FIRM was established
2015: Lost first Civil Bench Trial/And First Criminal Jury Trial
2016: Lost first Appeal and was ordered to pay $10,000 in Sanctions to opposing counsel/Lost second Criminal Jury Trial.
2017: Lost first civil jury trial/Lost Second Civil Bench Trial-Rejali Law Firm went into debt over $85,000
2018: Won first Civil Jury Trial/Lost Third Bench Trial
2019: Lost Third criminal jury trial/Won three civil jury trials
2020: My firm was recognized for obtaining one of California’s TOP 100 verdicts in 2019.

Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not.

To name a few: being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and maintaining my mental health; financial difficulties in business; difficulty in getting into school; difficulty in passing the bar exam; difficulty in adapting and adjusting to a new culture (something I still struggle with).

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I own a Plaintiffs personal injury law firm. I represent ordinary people against insurance companies, corporations and government entities for injuries they have caused. What sets me apart is the willingness to go the distance and also trials. There are very few people in my age group that do trials, and if they do, they work for bigger firms. This is because trials are time-consuming, involve a lot of risks, and costs a lot of money.

At my firm, I believe in what I do, believe in our system of justice, our jury system and the good in people. Juries want to do the right thing and 9 out of 10 they get it right. It is absolutely a privilege to be able to help people who have been injured through no fault of their own.

We are also known for taking on some of the toughest cases against the biggest law firms in the country. To put it in a nutshell, I am fearless. I have experienced so many things in my life that nothing scares me, and I am relentless in making sure my clients are treated fairly.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
My office is in San Diego. However, I know many colleagues that practice out of LA. With respect to San Diego, I would say it is extremely competitive and a much smaller market out here. Certainly, Los Angeles is a bigger market, but then again the competition is much higher.

That being said, in my opinion it does not matter where you’re going to start as far as a law firm is concerned. The only ingredients you need are drive, passion, perseverance, tenacity, and resilience.
