Meet Gabriela Garcia of AyoGabs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriela Garcia.

Gabriela, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved from San Jose, CA in 2016. This October now marks four years of living out in Los Angeles. I have always loved music as a kid and entertainment. Music in general is what I have always loved, I started noticing me going more towards Djing when I would dig for music that nobody has heard yet or has heard but it’s a remix of it or a mash up some sort. I got more into djing bought my controller learning my craft, practicing lots of practice. When I decided to move out to Los Angeles, I knew I was going out there with an intention and that was to make my dream a reality, not saying It couldn’t happen where I’m from because it can. I just felt that me being out in Los Angeles would be a lot more beneficial for myself. I dropped out of college, told my parents this is what I was going to do and moved.

I was definitely very emotional when I left one I was nervous & scared because I knew that I am going to go through a lot good and bad, two happy & excited to just follow your heart and go for what you want. I am grateful and blessed to see my work paying off little by little and this is only the beginning and to always go much harder than before because it never stops just like we learn something new every day, we have to keep going. I have been learning how to DJ more better and I started producing learning more about the (DAW) I use, what plugins are there how to use it on your tracks, how to make something sound better etc. What got to me where I am today? 1) believing in myself 2) the lessons I had to learn 3) Consistency 4) those who believe in me.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth ride at all. From moving not knowing so much what credit was, I wasn’t informed so much on the actual adult things we should learn about bills, etc. I definitely had to learn the hard way I wasn’t able to fully live on my own because of that when I moved to Los Angeles, I was grateful to have met amazing people down the road where I was able to couch surf. I have lived in my car for a bit just trying to make it work.

Understanding that the music industry is a hard industry to go through, I have met people that wanted more than to just work with me and it has shown me the difference of when someone is trying to work with you because they see something more than just a body that they want to have sexual relationships with. I had to learn the hard way and that is completely okay because life is not easy and we have to appreciate the good and bad equally.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I currently DJ and produce music with the pandemic. I have been doing Live Streams on Twitch. I am known for my Edit Packs that I have been making for about four years now. A recent Bootleg I made called “MY HUMPS” got recognition from Diplo, Dillon Francis, AkiraAkira, Jstjr, etc. I play and make Latin music such as reggaeton, moombahton, etc. What sets me apart from competition is knowing that the only person I have to compete with is myself. Being better everyday, learning something new every day and not going backward. Knowing that there is only one of you has helped me so much throughout my journey.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally feel like success is like a moving target; we get there and then there’s more doing what you love, etc. living the life you imagine. Success to me is to have a goal, plan those steps to achieve that goal and to implement the plan. If you have done your best, you should be proud of your efforts. If you’re able to tell yourself that you can achieve your goals, you are doing great. Success isn’t always going to be about just being great, it’s the consistency of the hard work you put in and those results will show.
