Today we’d like to introduce you to Nate Schlimme.
Nate, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My professional journey to LA started with a letter in the mail to Redondo Beach. An old family friend whom I had never met was working at Nike in Culver City at the time I was about to graduate college. My grandma in Akron, Ohio told me about him and gave me his address. An email would have been ideal but that’s all she could get. I printed out my resume, a cover letter to work at Nike, a note detailing our connection and shot my shot.
I ended up getting a call from him a week later much to my surprise. We chopped it up for a while and he introduced me to some partners at local creative agencies who did a wealth of work for Nike and others.
I received an internship at a dope up and coming agency at the time, Optimist. Upon graduating, I packed the U-Haul towing my car on the back and headed to LA. I got in on Friday and started on Monday.
Optimist was a wild five years ride where I gained an immense amount of experience traveling throughout the country for various marketing projects for Nike, Jordan, and a few other clients. I not only made some life-long friends but connections that will continue to play a role in the rest of my life, guaranteed.
I am currently at a digital agency, Laundry Service daily, working on music with a wealth of other projects going on. Additionally, I work with a range of extremely talented artists with one of my best friends I grew up with in Ohio – Patrick MacDonald, and a talented, young music entrepreneur at 25/7, Mike Maloian. I am also working on a few social media growth projects with my college roommate, Stephen Traversie who is based out of New York.
It can be a lot sometimes but it is absolutely fulfilling. Not only is it exciting to think about what the future holds in all these ventures but more importantly, the experience of creating and building with such adept people I can call my friends is truly rewarding.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Is there a such thing as a smooth road?
There have definitely been road blocks, speed-bumps, and detours both professionally and personally. I do my best to keep a positive attitude and rely on my amazing friends and family for support when I need it.
It sounds cliché but you have to enjoy all wins, even the little ones.
25/7, Laundry Service and Sezen Creative – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
25/7 is an established company in music specializing in Artist Management. We are specifically known for creative marketing and finding unique talent with massive potential. We also provide consulting, distribution, PR and marketing services. This year has been, and will continue to be, a big year for 25/7.
Sezen is a diverse marketing company with a focus in digital. Recent opportunities are allowing us to expand our services into other marketing avenues including PR and brand partnerships. We work with a diverse group of clientele from nightlife, fitness, cannabis/CBD, and more.
Laundry Service is a world-renowned agency owned by Wasserman. We work with some of the top brands and talent on Earth.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Freedom – the opportunity of waking up daily not being handcuffed to work you dislike or don’t believe in – that would be my ultimate metric. In the short term, I feel success comes by accomplishing goals and creating benefit for yourself without taking away from others. Success isn’t a zero-sum game.
