Meet Nuria Botella of Maxine Leonard PR in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nuria Botella.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Nuria. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in the beautiful Spanish Mediterranean and moved out for college first to Madrid and then to Lancaster (England), graduating in business and marketing. I was always attracted to jobs that combine creative and strategic skills and marketing does that for me. After a couple of successful years working in Spain, I decided that I wanted to focus on marketing creative and artistic products… and what’s more creative than film? So I set sails and moved to LA, where I graduated in Business and Management of Entertainment at UCLA and kicked off my film career.

My first LA job was working with the Publicity and Promotions team of Allied Global Marketing in the multicultural Allied Contigo division in titles such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Disney’s Inside Out, and Terminator Genisys. Then I was hired as a Manager of Marketing and Publicity for Myriad Pictures where after two years, I was promoted to Director of Marketing and PR. At Myriad, I oversaw the global marketing & PR strategies for their film slate. I was involved in acquisitions, lead the festival strategy for the films, and worked in both marketing materials and strategies for our films which included The Last Word with Amanda Seyfried and Shirley McLaine and The Queen of Spain with Penelope Cruz.

After four years at Myriad Pictures, I felt it was the right time for me to accept a new challenge and I joined the team of Maxine Leonard PR, whose impressive PR campaigns include the Oscar nominee Bombshell with Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, and Margot Robbie, and the box office hit Hustlers with JLo.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
If it were smooth, it would not be fun! Of course, there have been many bumps on the road. Some of the struggles come with moving and working in a different country and in a different language. However, in any struggle, there is always a motivation to move forward, work harder, and do better. I am grateful that I have met great people in this city and in the industry who have always believed in my skills and potential.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I work as a senior publicist at Maxine Leonard PR, a well-established film PR agency based in LA. We work in both corporate and film marketing and publicity. A big part of our job is to promote the client’s films when they premiere at festivals around the world and traveling is one of my passions, so the fact that I can do it for work is a big plus. I have been at the company since the beginning of the year and I am proud to say that I love how every client for us is so special. We truly have a tailored approach and feel part of a team with each of our clients. We enjoy the ride together.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I can think of many things that I could have done differently but then I wouldn’t be where I am. For example, when I graduated from college I got a highly competitive job in banking. Despite realizing banking was not where my heart was, having that experience provided me with a whole set of skills and set me apart from other marketers with a different background. Achieving your goals is not a sprint is a marathon with many turns.
