Today we’d like to introduce you to Nora Blake Smith.
Nora Blake, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved media and entertainment. I graduated from Oakwood University in 2017 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and Public Relations. Immediately after graduation, I began pursuing my dream as an entertainment host and enthusiast, covering events, red carpets, and movie premiers all across the Washington DC metropolitan area. In 2018 I attended a hosting workshop with NBCU in Los Angeles, which helped me cultivate my love and passion for hosting. In 2020 when the pandemic hit, my hosting gigs stopped and forced me to pivot my focus. I began helping my friends and family grow their social media platforms and sharing my tips online with my Instagram followers. Before I knew it, I had people from all over the world hit me up to help them manage their online platforms and grow their social media following, which earned me an extra $11,000 in 6 months. Since then, I’ve quit my 9-5 job and became a full-time entrepreneur. Hosting is still a passion of mine, but I’ve also found a love of entrepreneurship and don’t plan on looking back anytime soon!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not always been a smooth road. I can remember graduating from college and literally getting zero job offers. People don’t warn you how serious post-grad depression is, but throughout it all I made the conscious choice that no matter what, I would make a way for myself. It’s no one’s responsibility but my own.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At this point in my career, I like to call myself a “serialpreneur” because there are so many things I have my hand in. As I wait for life to get a little more normal and my hosting jobs to become regular again, I am continuing to focus my attention on my craft as a social media consultant. I love helping other business owners and entrepreneurs strategize their businesses and develop social media strategies that work!
I’m most proud of my E-Book “Do It For The Gram: An Instagram Engagement Guide” that I launched in September of 2020. The name of my business is “NBS Strategies,” aka “No Bull-Shit Strategies” or “Nora Blake Smith Strategies,” depending on who I am talking to (lol). Not only is “NBS” my initial’s, but it also stands for “No Bull-Shit” because when it comes to my clients, I don’t give them “fluff” advice. In all of my sessions and consultations, we get straight to the point, which sets me apart from others. Many social media companies out there will give you the run-around and require you to spend so much money for little results. I have so many positive reviews, and I let the results speak for themselves.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory would definitely be shopping for Christmas Trees with my dad. Christmas doesn’t hit like it used to, and I haven’t had Christmas tree in years, but I will always cherish those memories.
