Meet Nina Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Moore.

Nina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am artistic by nature and have had the desire to create visual art for as long as I can remember. It’s my gift in this world.

Growing up, I didn’t commit to one form of expression. I explored and appreciated photography, culinary, typography, art and decorating – all the elements that I use in my role today as an event planner and designer.

In my early twenties, I was inspired to become a wedding planner, as I felt I would be a great fit for that job. So I researched and connected with other women who were experienced and open to mentoring me. I was swiftly welcomed into the event industry, and I worked every weekend assisting other planners at weddings, parties, and corporate gatherings in Santa Barbara, California. In a small community that appreciates helping one another over competition, the planners who taught me are still some of my dearest friends and greatest supporters.

Every event planner ran their businesses in their own unique way, and I witnessed ways that I didn’t resonate with and some that I aspired to. I didn’t follow one planner and run with their path. I gave myself the time and space needed to understand who I was as a designer, what type of services I wanted to offer, and how to authentically connect with people in my own way.

I have learned to listen to my clients, hear the messages they have to say and understand their values even if they don’t directly relay them to me. When creating a wedding, I evaluate who the couple is as a team and who they are as individuals. It’s in a way therapeutic, having conversations of their lifestyle, where they travel, what restaurants and type of services they appreciate, where they shop, how they see themselves, who their family members and close friends are and how they would like to involve them in the process.

On the wedding day, the guests entering the space should feel the energy of couple – the perfect location, melody of the music, culinary cuisine, furnishings, lighting, texture, and color pallet is a direct reflection of how the couple lives their everyday life, with a few hints of unexpected delights to create a long-lasting memory. The process is intuitive and artful for me.

Has it been a smooth road?
The timeframe that stands out as my greatest struggle is when I felt I had to choose between my dreams of owning my own business or supporting my family. In my mid-20’s I was a newly single mother with two young children. There was great strength in parting from a relationship that wasn’t meant for me, but at the time my business was not creating the revenue it needed to be a full-time job to support myself and my children. I had just taken time away from the business to have a second baby, so I chose a job as an interior designer working for another company where I could rely on a steady paycheck.

It was a great experience, but ultimately I know my personality isn’t meant to work for anyone else but myself. I felt disconnected from my purpose and was ready to start my own business again. I chose to show up everyday, picking up the phone and calling everyone I knew informing them I was back in business, emailing and scheduling meetings with new business prospects, and focused on branding my vision into a reality that I had wanted for so long. The efforts paid off and the business became more successful than I imagined within the first two years.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I branded the business as “Nina Moore”, as I see my name as an extension of myself and a lifestyle. Nina Moore is a luxury event planning based in California and New York creating unique and artful gatherings for weddings, life’s celebrations and soirees.

I am proud to have built a reputation for curating exceptional events, making each design unique, a reflection of our client’s vision, whilst providing the highest level of service, style and ingenuity.

I believe there is luxury in simplicity, and the modern perspective on events is what I’m best known for in my designs.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
At this time, it’s hard to envision where the industry will be in 5-10 years as we are in the midst of a global pandemic. Currently, the changes I am seeing is people are becoming more in tune with what their priorities are and how they envision their celebrations. There’s less influence on putting on a show or being influenced by other people’s opinions. In return, there’s a lot more open expression from the clients on what is most meaningful to them.
