Meet Nina Mercado of Ninamoniquehair in Downtown Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Mercado.

Nina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started professionally doing hair when I was 18 years old. My hair journey started at Paul Mitchell in Sherman Oaks. I always knew I wanted to do hair since I was 12 years old. I was that kid in school doing my friends hair for prom and all school dances. As I was halfway done with beauty school, I had got an opportunity to do a music video and I knew I didn’t want to just do hair in a salon. I wanted to do hair for music videos, tv, celebrities, you name it. Ten years later, here I am pursuing my dreams. I am a freelance hairstylist and I am the head hair for Revolt T.V. Which is known as Sean Diddy Comb television network. I have had the opportunity to work New York and L.A fashion week. I have also worked several reality tv shows currently I am working on Growing up HipHop on wetv.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There were definitely some struggles a long the way. Starting off in the industry you have to pay your dues. There were times when I had to do free work and work long hours for barely any money. But, I knew it would pay off in the long run and it did. Because I was such a hardworker and I never said no to a job I built a lot of good relationships in the industry.

Ninamoniquehair – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a freelance hair stylist. I work on sets a lot whether it’s for television, awards, photo shoots, or weddings. I specialize in all different hair textures. From styling to extensions and wigs.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success by working hard and being passionate about my craft. My criteria are maintaining a good amount of clients. Most important always have a good attitude and be professional.
