Meet Nina Berenboym – Sabo of Southland Stone in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Berenboym – Sabo.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I believe if you follow your heart, the journey is magical. My story began as a Fashion Designer, that’s what I’ve always done and who I’ve always been, creative. My 20’s were spent working for fashion design houses in LA and my early 30’s, I was the CEO of my women’s active apparel brand.

In 2017, while being pregnant with our first baby, my husband Lew, a talented contractor and custom cabinet designer and I renovated our first home on HGTV – House Hunters Renovation. Wow! I was eight months pregnant running around LA looking for slabs and tiles. It was the best! I believe this renovation gave me a glimpse of what it’s like to create and transform. While being a stay home mom, I felt the urge to follow my heart into the Stone & Tile industry and this is where my new story began. I got a job as assistant project manager for some of the most beautiful custom homes in Bel Air. It was quite the experience! But I was longing for more of a creative and hands on position. Southland Stone offered me my dream job. I have a new path of creativity by working with home owners, designers, architects and other trades. A collaboration we build together.

Has it been a smooth road?
The journey is never a smooth road, that’s what makes it special. My challenges along the way were that I knew nothing about the Stone & Tile business and someone had to take a chance on me to give me this opportunity to learn. The first year at another company was challenging. But I was set out to prove that I’m a quick learner and with my tenacity, I was going to achieve what I desired. At Southland Stone I realized my challenges from before is my success here.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
As an Architectural Sales Rep, I specialize in helping clients build their residential and commercial projects in LA. I normally work at the showroom and many times will go out to the job sites. Southland Stone is a family owned business that was established over 40 years ago. We quarry directly from the source and bring the most beautiful stone to our slab yard in the valley. Our Porslim (porcelain) collection made in Italy is stunning and can used for wall cladding, flooring, countertops, showers, etc. What sets me apart is I enjoy helping clients create beautiful spaces and make sure they love the process. Also love collaborating with my husband by helping him choose the best materials for his projects.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is a great place to build. We’re always building new restaurants, hotels, banks, commercial offices, apartment buildings and custom homes. We are always evolving.
