Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki La Rose.
Hi Nikki, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started in the beauty industry 16 years ago! I was self-taught at first, then attended a small school in Hollywood called Napoleon Perdis, Where I got certified in makeup; from there, I worked for free on anything and everything I could get on. I did test shoots, music videos, and headshots, you name it. From there, I landed what was my dream at the time- a job with MAC Cosmetics, where I met and worked with some of the most talented artists, some of whom are still my friends to this day. From there, I worked my way into private clients and celebrities.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nooooo lol it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but it HAS been a FUN road! In Los Angeles, you are a tiny fish in a gigantic pond, and paving your way/ making a name for yourself in this industry took some time. You have to have a certain stamina to keep going in this business.

At this point in my career, I split my time between celebrity and private clients and campaign shoots for brands, along with filming for my YouTube channel, where I post makeup how-tos to help others!
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I never had a mentor in this industry; what worked for me was trusting my gut. What worked best for me was later in my career, trying to steer it in the direction of what I wanted to work on most, which was beauty campaigns and celebrity shoots. For years, I worked on TV commercials, and although it was an amazing opportunity, it never filled my cup. Follow your heart in this industry and try to focus on clients and opportunities that fuel your passion, and the rest will fall into place.
