Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Pulverenti.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nicole. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started cosmetology school seven years ago but I gave my first haircut to my roommate at summer camp when I was only 12 years old. So I guess you could say I’ve always been interested in the beauty industry. I was the little girl with stick on earrings, wearing plastic jewelry with my nails always painted (by myself of course), and putting on my Mom’s make up even though I wasn’t allowed. So beauty school came pretty naturally to me.
While I was in school, I used to dream of saving all my tips for the next 30 years to open a salon of my own. Little did I know, a short five years later I did exactly that. I moved from North Hollywood to Artesia to open the salon so I had to start all over and build a clientele in my new area. Six months after opening I had a Corporate Lawyer come in for a blowout. She raved about how happy she was and invited me to a networking meeting the following day. Now, I’m no businesswoman. I’m just a girl who loves styling hair and helping people feel beautiful. But I attended the meeting anyway because I knew I was willing to do anything to grow my business. I joined the Business Networking International Organization (BNI) the following week and it has changed my business and my life forever. I still have to pinch myself sometimes because I can not believe I get to do what I love every single day.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not!!! As a business owner, you are on a rollercoaster of emotions every single day. Some days you think ‘Oh I totally got this!’, and other days you think ‘Oh no, what am I doing wrong?’. All I can do is my absolute best every single day. And when I see my network and business is growing, all the hard work seems worth it to me.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Mane Escape Salon – what should we know?
Mane Escape Salon is a full-service hair salon. I offer a variety of haircuts from a long layered haircut to a gentleman’s fade. Coloring, highlighting and balayage services. Olaplex is included in every color service. I also offer blowout, braiding and styling services. I’m in a one chair salon so I see one client at a time. My clients have my undivided attention so they are not sitting there waisting time while I’m working on someone else.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think I have the ability to connect with people while simultaneously teaching each client how to care for their hair and helping them feel beautiful at the same time. I don’t want my clients to only look good on the days they get to see me. I want them to look and feel good every single day! What good is all the knowledge I have if I don’t share it with my clients? I explain every single thing I’m doing and why I’m doing it and I think everyone appreciates that.
