Meet Nick Martini of Stept Studios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Martini.

Nick, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My brother Alex and I started making ski films in high school on the east coast. After we graduated, the both of us ending up skiing professionally and traveling the world chasing snow. We continued making ski films and began to get international recognition for our film work. Some bigger brands like The North Face and Under Armour began financing the films and we fostered some really great direct-to-brand working relationships.

Once we stopped making ski films and migrated to LA, we continued to work for the same brands but started focusing on their commercial production. Over the past several years we have grown our business into a full-service creative agency, and have a great crew working out of our studio in El Segundo.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been smooth but ever changing. We are in the midst of a rapidly changing landscape for digital content. The films we make used to be 10 minutes long, and now they are often as short as 6 seconds. We have also transitioned into a lot of photography, design, and copywriting, to accompany the moving images we create.

Stept Studios – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Stept is known for cutting-edge visual anthems that tell the stories of brands, products, and people. Our productions are typically focused around creating short films or commercials. Our short films are mostly the human-centered story that is supported by brands and distributed through film festivals and digital streaming platforms. Our commercial work is known for our focus on athletics, adventure, and automotive.

These projects are created for agencies and brands looking for a production partner from the new generation media creators. Stept is also known for our post-production services, which are often utilized by other production companies looking for additional help in the editing phase.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The opening of our LA studio was a big step in establishing our presence on the west coast. It has become a hub for a lot of creative development, production, and events.
