Meet Nick Desai of Heal in Century City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Desai.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Nick. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Mumbai, India but have been in Southern California since I was three. I grew up in Orange County, went to UCLA for graduate school to study Electrical Engineering, and never looked back. I love Southern California and I LOVE LA. It’s the greatest city on earth. I met my wife (who is an LA born-and-bred native), and we got married nine years ago. We have two boys and a new baby girl, and we started Heal together… all in LA.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Wow, how much time do you have? What challenges haven’t I faced? Perhaps, the hardest thing is finding great people with whom to build a company. That is an on-going challenge because great employees—change makers—people who care and want to be a part of something bigger than they are, are truly hard to find.

Heal – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Heal is transforming healthcare with high-quality doctor house calls that lower healthcare costs through improved outcomes. Heal sends a licensed, high-quality doctor to your home or office, anytime 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., seven days/week, 365 days/year, typically within two hours or less. Covered by most major PPO insurance plans, Heal doctors deliver old-fashioned, unhurried, relationship-based care using state of the art tools and technological innovations. By spending more time with patients, seeing their home environment, and delivering timely and comprehensive care, Heal has driven over $55 million in verified healthcare cost savings in just 80,000 house calls. More importantly, we have closed care gaps on 78% of our adult patients – which leads to early diagnosis of easily treated chronic conditions so people spend more time being well, and less time getting well.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Nowadays, success is supposedly complicated given the variety of areas from financial success to environmental stewardship that CEO’s have to focus on. But for me, success has always been defined by a single unifying statement: to be a good human being who spends my energies creating companies based on new ideas that help all those involved – from customers to suppliers to investors to partners and of course my family and my planet.
