Meet Nick Covey of Anecho

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Covey.

Nick, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was a football kicker for the majority of my life, played in college as well as professionally as a free agent in the NFL. After some time, I realized that I was unhappy and miserable playing football. Even though I was good at it, this quote kept ringing in my head: the ultimate tragedy in life is getting good at something you hate.

So I decided to make a change. After months of deep self-reflection and journaling on what I really want to do, I decided to start a company. That company being Anecho. The reason behind starting this was because I realized that I had always loved doing things that made me feel alive, things that made me free from thought. Such as surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding, rock-climbing, etc. After diving into this world I realized that there were people doing this professionally on a daily basis. So, I decided that I wanted to share their stories through film and to represent this lifestyle through clothing.

Anecho is now a clothing brand and production company that shares the stories of these unique individuals.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not. It’s hard to some up all of the struggles, but I’ll give it my best shot.

The resistance I felt and received from family and friends was massive. They told me that I was throwing it all away and making a terrible mistake.

I also had to learn entirely new skill-sets: marketing, running a business, production and media, and a bunch more but I’ll keep it short. I’ve made a ton of mistakes and have spent a large amount of money learning how to do these things.

One of the hardest obstacles I’ve faced and still face to this day is overcoming myself. I realized that to get where I wanted to be that I needed to up my discipline and work ethic. It’s a constant battle of maintaining the standards required to get to where I want to be.

Please tell us about Anecho.
Anecho is a clothing brand and media house. We specialize in music videos, films, and content.

Anecho is derived from the word anechoic which means: the complete absence of sound. We all have that one thing that we can’t stop thinking about, but when we are doing it we aren’t thinking of anything. Our mission is to represent and support those who live this lifestyle.

We are most proud of staying true to our mission and the quality of our work.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have reminded myself to be patient. I would also have started working with others way sooner. We can only do so much alone.
