Meet Nick Adams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Adams.

Nick, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve loved music for as long as I can remember, but didn’t start actually playing it until was a teenager. I worked with my dad for a summer when I was 14, and earned enough money to buy my first drum set. One thing I feel really thankful for is that the motivation to teach myself drums, buy a kit, and pursue music as a career came solely from my own passion for the instrument and for music. It was never something I had to do, it was always something I chose to do. Not knowing what the future held, but knowing I wouldn’t be satisfied doing anything else, I moved to LA and enrolled in music school when I was 18. After graduating I started freelancing locally, and that has led to a career as a touring and recording drummer that I am extremely grateful for and excited about.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Thankfully, it’s been a fairly smooth ride so far! I think I’m fortunate to have worked with a lot of great people, and played music that I love. I’ve of course experienced the natural ebb and flow of any freelance profession, but I remind myself often to enjoy the process, and appreciate every step of the journey. It’s been proven to me over and over that even seemingly bad circumstances can, and often do, lead to the next great thing.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m a working drummer, and predominantly tour with and/or record for original artists. I consider myself a rock/pop drummer but love playing all kinds of music. I have a studio in North Hollywood, and can record drums for anyone, anywhere in the world from there. I’m always trying to evolve, and I think one thing that makes me valuable and hirable beyond drum set ability is my knowledge of playback software and rigs, the incorporation of sampling and digital/hybrid drumming in my setup, and a general level of experience and professionalism I bring to every situation.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’ve never been a big believer in luck, because I believe I’m ultimately responsible for the circumstances I attract. I have had the feeling of being in the right place at the right time, but like to think that I created the events that put me there.
