Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Bailey.
Nicholas, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story is a funny one. It’s one that’s filled with many years of confusion, self-doubt, exploration, trial and error, risk-taking, big wins, big losses and everything in-between.
My first introduction to the style and design world came when I was 16 years old. I started my own fashion blogs and publications, as well as writing for established ones such as Hypebeast and Sneaker Files. Once I got that taste, I knew it’s where I was meant to be. I knew I was a creator.
12 years later, I feel like I’ve done and seen so much since then. I’ve had a few successful ventures, but also a few not as much. Currently, I run NICKSAYSGO.COM–my lifestyle and content blog where I post much of my own content, as well as content I create in collaboration with brands. The hard work has paid off as I’ve been able to work with brands such as PUMA, Need Supply, Floyd Detroit, Columbia and more.
As much as I’ve done, I feel as if I’m just getting started.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing about being a creative is ever smooth. My journey has been fun but also filled with plenty of challenges – many of them coming from self.
Unpaid invoices, crucial deadlines, endless revisions, being turned down for projects – I’ve dealt with it all. These things just come with the territory. The true challenges come from self. Self-doubt, analysis paralysis, imposter syndrome – these have been my biggest competitors in my creative journey. I’ve always known how much talent I have, but even still, it’s been tough to feel deserving or worthy of good things that have come my way. When I launched a business that I knew was a hit, I still had doubts about how well it would do or how it would be received. Your mind can easily become your biggest obstacle, but you have to overcome.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
NICKSAYSGO.COM is a complete lifestyle and content platform. It’s a culmination of a lot of my work over the years, since about 2017. Using the platform, I provide guides, recommendations and how-tos for all things style, grooming, decor and more.
Outside of the platform, I also serve as a content creator, influencer and affiliate partner for many brands. I’ve created content for many brands in the past, such as Floyd, PUMA and Lone Deodorant. I’ve also completed campaigns for Bevel and Columbia Sportswear, just to name a few. Generally speaking, I’m known for my true to life, everyday style of content. I want to appeal to the everyday person, so I create my content in a way that’s easy to digest for anyone. That’s also what sets me apart. I’m knowledgeable and relevant, but also relatable. When reading or viewing my content, people feel like they can get to know me. I speak with people, not necessarily speaking at them.
I’m most proud of how I’ve been able to set myself apart and nail some great partnerships over the years, without the insanely huge platform people feel like you need to have for this. Great content with a relatable personality and the ability to create partnerships trumps all. Follower count and numbers aren’t everything.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe that the best things happen in life when you’re prepared for all opportunities that may come your way. I also believe that sometimes the best opportunities come your way with a stroke of good luck. I’ve been a pretty lucky man.
