Meet Nic and Del of The Detoxing Duo in West LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nic and Del.

Nic and Del, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After graduating from college, we moved into an apartment together in Los Angeles. That’s when our health really started to deteriorate. We both developed issues ranging from insomnia to migraines to chronic fatigue, and as time when on, our conditions continued to worsen. We finally discovered that it was toxic mold exposure that was slowly poisoning us.

Fast forward to today, and we’ve discovered that the mold exposure triggered a seemingly endless list of conditions including Lyme disease, gut problems, hormone imbalances and thyroid issues, among others. We’ve tried countless therapies– western, alternative and advanced– and have come to realize no treatment is one size fits all. From ozone blood infusions to amino acid injections to stem cells (and SO much more), we’ve tried it all and part of our mission is to chronicle and share this journey. We believe that so many chronic illnesses today are caused by unidentified root causes- in our case it was toxic mold. We’ve also learned what it means to be your own best health advocate and we want to inspire others to do the same.

In addition to medical treatments, we’ve made some major lifestyle shifts. From an awareness of what we consume to what we put on our bodies, we try to live as clean a life as possible. We’ve adopted an anti-inflammatory diet free of gluten, dairy, soy, corn, alcohol and peanuts. We know how hard it is to live with so many food sensitivities and we share hacks we’ve learned along the way.

Through The Detoxing Duo, we have built a community of people who have experienced chronic health struggles and also connect with others who want to live a cleaner lifestyle. We are excited to continue to grow and connect with more people going through personal health journeys. It’s the sharing of our journeys that will lead us to wellness.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our healing journey has been the antithesis of a smooth road in every way. It took us both a long time to understand and accept that healing from these illnesses isn’t linear. It’s made up of SO many ups and downs. At first that was incredibly frustrating, as logically it should be steady improvement. Yet, that is not the case. Another struggle has been accepting this as our new normal. While many of our friends are living their lives to the fullest- traveling the world, going out and about in LA, eating at delicious restaurants- we’ve been forced to put our lives on hold to heal. We’ve had to take a step back from our previously vibrant and active social lives to rest and recover, and sometimes it’s hard to not feel like we’re missing out on things. Yet, we know this is where we need to be for the time being.

The Detoxing Duo – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Detoxing Duo is a platform for us to share our health journeys and spread awareness about our chronic illnesses in hopes of connecting with others out there who are enduring similar health challenges. We are building a community of people who are similarly on their own healing journeys as well as those who just want to embrace a healthier lifestyle for optimal wellness. Another goal of ours is to be advocates and help people navigate these overwhelming and misunderstood situations so that they feel less alone. We strive to be a source of inspiration and comfort.
