Today we’d like to introduce you to Nianxin Li.
Hi Nianxin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am Chinese and went to Italy to study painting when I was a teenager. After that, I moved to New York in 2021 for my MFA. Now lives in New York. I tried many different media to create in different environments and slowly found my true love through constant exploration.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have no idea. But I know this is my only way. I can feel my love for doing this for no reason.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My practice begins with feelings of disconnection between the purpose and methods of my early education and family life. My work discusses the possibility of various parts actively or passively staying in the same space and questions the traditional framework of prioritizing familial relationships.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yes, that is to live every day as if it is the last day of my life.
