Meet Nia Hutchinson of Nia Lonette in Van Nuys

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nia Hutchinson.

Nia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started dancing at the age of three in Temple Hills, Maryland. I’ve trained in so many styles from ballet to flamingo for 18+ years. There was a point in time when I wanted to stop dancing just because I assumed that it wouldn’t make my family proud. I wanted to pursue something that I felt was more “normal” in a way.

Once I left college, my mom told me, “I believe in your talent so I think you should go to LA and pursue your dream”. Once I moved in 2017, I left all my fear behind and took my dance career to the next level and even started my career in modeling. Since then, I have been able. To work with so many different artists such as Remy Ma, Chris Brown, Todrick Hall and many more.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Well as we all know, living in LA is not a walk in the park! You have to truly grind to make a living out here and be prepared to work long hours to make ends meet. Also, I had to build thick skin very quickly out here. The constant “no’s” that I would receive could become overwhelming, but as time goes on, you realize that what is meant for you will be for you.

What else should we know about your work and career so far?
I am a professional dancer and freelance print/runway model. I specialize mostly in Ballet, hip hop, jazz and modern. I am truly known for the creative content that I create with my modeling. With dancing, I’m known for how smooth I dance and how much personality I have. What sets me apart from other models and dancers is my work ethic and my drive. Every day I wake up knowing that there’s always something new to learn and always something I can bring to the table. Another thing that sets me apart is my huge heart for others in the industry. Regardless of what I’m doing or who I’m working with, I always take time to encourage and shout out my other friends when they’re doing amazing or even if they need positive words.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan on opening my own dance school down the line as well as a travel company that goes to different countries to not only perform but give back and teach others. I also want to create my own line that involves streetwear, dancewear, and maybe some high-end dresses.
