Meet Nefertiti Brow Queen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nefertiti Brow Queen.

Nefertiti, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was a young mother of two by the age of 19. Born and raised in NY. After starting a career in the hair business and needing more income as a budding stylist a friend of mine suggested fragrance modeling. I thought to give it a try and landed my first cosmetic sales job. There I stayed for over 22 years. Running businesses, managing cosmetic brands. Falling in love with skin, makeup artistry and creating an environment in which women felt beautiful.

Moving to LA 16 years ago and makeup still being a part of my life, I used my skills to work on a few music videos and commercials as well as working with photographers. This line of work for me was always a hustle and consistent provision for my children was necessary. So back to managing cosmetic brands it was. Working at different retailers, ending in luxury retail. My expertise is bringing out the beauty of a woman, a natural beauty. Enhancing them in every way. Their look, their spirit, making them want and need to return again and again.

Three years ago, after filling in a client’s eyebrows she remarked on how natural the shape was and how she’s never seen her brows look that way. She began to educate me about microblading which at that time I knew nothing about. I looked into it, got certified and it’s been my passion ever since. After so many years of building businesses for other brands, developing long and lasting relationships with clients, I thought to myself… Why not start your own business. These are my qualities that I have that I can use to invest in myself and that is when Nefertiti Brow Queen was born. Microblading has afforded me a way to be a true artist in creating brows that are naturally enhanced, stroke by stroke. Changing women’s lives. Giving them a little more time and convenience to their everyday lives. Speaking of changing women lives I am currently working on a non-profit for woman that have alopecia and post cancer treatment. Looking forward to using my passion for microblading to make a little change in this world. In the next couple of years, I will be opening up a skin boutique.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
What road is smooth? Life’s full of struggles. My initial struggle was trying to start a business while still working a full-time job. This is something that I needed to do once the ball got rolling. I’ve been blessed with such an amazing husband and friend. He’s encouraged me and I am no longer working a full-time job. Well I do but it’s full time for me.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Nefertiti Brow Queen story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m in the business of microblading. I do Micro feathering and shading as well. In feathering hair strokes are spread out a little further. Microblading is a full filling in of the brow with hair strokes. Shading creates a fuller and denser brow, still using the same procedure. Its semi-permanent eyebrow tattooing where every strand of hair is added to the brow. I use organic pigments that are etched into the brow using a blade. The procedure can cost anywhere from $300 – $1000.

Three years ago, when I looked into it, I was only able to find it being done in Asia and Europe but it has blown up. It’s everywhere! There is an array of hair stylist with different levels of ability with varying rates. I would say the same goes for microblading. Do your research and don’t look for the cheapest deal out there. It’s cheap for a reason. It’s best to look for an artist with quality work. What sets me apart is my makeup artistry skills. Particularly makeup that looks natural. I love to bring out and complete a women’s brows where they may be a little sparse. Allowing them to say good bye to their eye brow pencil and the time it took every morning to get them looking their best. I have clients that want their brows thicker and fuller as well. That’s also something that should be artistically done to look natural. You would be surprised at how many people have gotten into this industry just for the money without any makeup or artistry skill. I am definitely not saying that one cannot learn to micro blade. What I am saying is that there is another level of work that is obtained when having that background. I’ve met someone that was working on becoming a cop before choosing to microblade.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
None at all! I don’t believe in that. I believe in what will be will be. Effort goes a long way. I do believe in what you put into something is what you will get out of it. That being said challenges will still present themselves. Where are there no challenges? For me they’ve been throughout my life. A part of my life. Always dusting myself off and trying again. What doesn’t kill you… you know the rest!
