Meet David Neely of Neely Guitars in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Neely.

Thanks for sharing your story with us David. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
People ask me all the time …”How did you get into this guitar business?” “I didn’t get into it, I was born into it… Nashville, Tennessee… St Thomas Hospital”. I started playing professionally when I was 15 years old. We take the whole spectrum of music, guitars, and lifestyle very seriously. We do our homework, practice constantly, and pay attention to what’s going on around us. Jimi Hendrix got his start in Nashville in 1963 after his hitch in the Army. Nashville was flooded with Guitar greats… Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Hank Garland, Jimmy Bryant, and so many more touring and session players that made a huge impact on the Guitar Community.

When I was 18, my band headed north to New England to play the Mafia Clubs in Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island and they just loved us. We would simply play anything they asked to play so we worked constantly… 4 and 5 hours a night 6 and 7 days a week. Hey, I’m a Guitarist… I don’t work at the Furniture Factory.

Has it been a smooth road?
Well, it’s been my road and I’ve loved every minute of it. I think another road would’ve been awful. You have to stay true to your heart in this life… your soul… your spirit… otherwise, you lose your way. I’ve never had that problem because my Cherokee blood won’t stand for it.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I offer extremely high quality. Everything thing about the Guitar is built on Physics. Oddly enough, the Guitar is still very primitive. Do you know what the first stringed instrument was… the bow and arrow. Because of my training, experience, and a degree in Electronics, I can relate to every aspect of old and new concepts. I treat everyone equally… we are all Guitarists. I don’t see color, race, politics, celebrity, etc… we are all Guitarists in my shop.

Also, I’m a Gold Level Factory Authorized Service Center for all the major manufacturers… Gibson, Martin, Fender, Taylor, Guild, Gretsch, Epiphone, and more.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
SoCal is the best place in the world. I’ve toured all over the country and my home is in L.A. I would say the opportunities here are unmatched elsewhere. If someone was just starting out, I would recommend getting your skill levels up, then come to Los Angeles.
