Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Spiteri.
Nathan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was raped and abused for several years as a child, threatened with my life if I ever told anyone and as a consequence lived a life of violence, drugs and sex. Hitting rock bottom, I came out the other side through therapy and group therapy, AA, NA and SA. I am now an advocate for sexual and child abuse. Telling my story, saving lives and educating the world is my mission.
Here is my story in an article written about me. This will explain everything. I have since written a screenplay about my life that is gaining lots of attention because of the times and what it is about. I live between LA and NY.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road. Obviously, lots of struggles along the way. Depression, addiction, trying to connect with others, therapy, finding out the truth about who I was and who I am now. A true journey of self-discovery.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an Australian actor/writer/producer and now advocate. I was the keynote speaker to the 7th annual ‘Paths To Healing’ child abuse conference in Wisconsin this past June, speaking in front of a large crowd. I’ve since done several podcasts and interviews about my life, my journey, advocacy work and my script. What happened to me, happened for a reason and this is to tell my story, educate the world on child abuse and save lives in the process. I’m original, say it how it is and through the article have already had over 200 people reach out to me saying I saved their life. I’ve given them the courage to speak out and also get help.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My family deserves a huge amount of credit. After keeping this a secret for 25 years, they have supported and loved me 100% without question. Friends for the support and love. Child abuse organizations for allowing me to tell my story through their platform and supporting me all the way. I have yet to receive any bad publicity, press or trolls online. Nothing but amazing support and love from all who hear my story.
