Today we’d like to introduce you to Natan Chkoury.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Natan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve had a passion for design and working with wood since my childhood. I’ve always enjoyed spaces where the natural beauty of wood is woven into a contemporary environment and done so with style. With over ten years of professional experience under my belt, I launched Olis Wood a few years ago because of the joy it brings me personally to be able to build exactly this type of environment for clients who share my adoration of wood and the timeless elegance it brings to any space.

I’ve assembled a crew of professional designers and craftsmen who not only share this passion for wood, but who are both adept and adaptable to meet the needs of a wide variety of clients. Whether it is a large scale commercial project like a new iHop Restaurant or a simple customized garden planter for a quaint backyard, the team at Olis Wood, Inc. view each project not as a mere professional assignment, but as an art installation they take pride in alongside each client.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Olis Wood has been built step by step from the days when all incoming calls were being routed to my mobile phone and I had to oversee all aspects of the business while on the go including project management and administrative duties. These days we have a dedicated crew of professionals both on the job and in our new office. These are people we have vetted who work for us full-time, who we know we can trust and rely on to not only get the job done the right way but to help our valued clients and potential customers with any needs that may arise along the way.

Of course, there are growing pains for any company that goes from working out of a truck and on borrowed time in larger contractor’s shops to having your own dedicated place of business, but any obstacles we have faced have been an opportunity to learn, to improve and have made us a better team for it.

Please tell us about Olis Wood, Inc.
We specialize in custom woodwork for both commercial and residential projects – large or small. Olis Wood is the company you can come to with that photo you saw on the internet and say “I want this, but I want it like that….” then fill in the blank and we can make this happen like that for you. If you’re unsure or your vision for the perfect wood enriched space isn’t exactly clear, our in-house designers can help with that too.

I’ve carefully selected the team of professionals who I employ full time. We aren’t just picking up random help in the morning on the way to a job, or outsourcing design work to cheap freelancers in another country, our workers have been carefully selected by myself not only for their talent, but the work ethic I see in them.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Opening our new offices and wood shop in North Hollywood earlier this year was a pretty proud moment, but the day we were contacted by your magazine for this interview might beat it. We had really put an effort into improving our web presence by rebuilding our website and streamlining ourselves as a brand online after moving into our new location. So, to get your call felt like we were noticed and had done something right. With that in mind, it is a proud moment for me anytime we have a client return to us for a new project. It is satisfying when to hear a client say “job well done,” but when they come back to you for repeat business, that’s when you know deep inside you’ve done something right.
