Natalie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my little business Threeologie about 4 years ago when I had just returned from a 5-month backpacking trip in South East Asia. I had this realization that I loved lettering and calligraphy but I just didn’t know how I could turn this into a business. Art is tricky! So I first started by creating customized lettering for friends and family and selling these pieces in frames. I don’t do that anymore but it was a great start to help me discover how I was going to create a business out of my passion. As you can tell Threeologie has transformed and continues to evolve into my little business every day!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting something new is never easy, especially a business! I struggled a lot to prove to myself and my family that I could create a business with lettering and calligraphy. And the life of an entrepreneur is always a struggle! You have to learn to find comfort in that discomfort. It helps you to grow and be resilient! Now I feel like I’m unstoppable! I’m not a huge business or super successful but I’ve recognized I’ve come a long way and I will continue to push hard until I accomplish my dreams for Threeologie.

Threeologie is a calligraphy and handlettering boutique located in Pasadena, Ca. It is known for beautiful calligraphy and hand lettering that you can find weekly on our Instagram. What sets Threeologie apart from other calligraphers and hand lettering artists is that I am an artist that specializes both in Calligraphy and Hand lettering. It’s rare to find an artist that specializes in both. We also offer workshops that are located in Pasadena for anyone interested in learning something new, finding a new hobby or looking for a day of fun. Threeologie also offers graphic design services.

My boyfriend is probably my biggest cheerleader. He definitely pushed me from the very beginning and believed in me 100% when no one else did. He’s also my biggest critic and pushes me to be better constantly. I’ve also worked with my sister Valerie Avalos who has constantly been there when I’ve needed an assistant last minute. She designed our flower arrangements for our workshops and the table layout. She did an amazing job so if you’re looking for someone I know a girl! 🙂
