Today we’d like to introduce you to Naomi Leight-Giveon.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2016, my husband and I were running a successful and growing consulting business, both working from home and making our own hours. After our son was born, we wanted to spend as much time as we could care for him, but quickly learned that working from home with a baby is near-to-impossible even with two parents sharing the duties! Attempting to work during naps, trading off care and trying to coordinate an ever-changing schedule was too much to handle. We even tried the coffee-shop-plus-babysitter-combination! It was expensive, inconvenient and frustrating, and we thought, there has to be a better alternative. So, in 2018, we decided to build the solution we were looking for.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have two children, an almost 1 year-old and a three-year-old, and launching a brand new business that focuses on families is by far the hardest thing I have ever done, and I did it while pregnant with my daughter. I don’t think anyone with a new business has smooth sailing and I have to make tough decisions daily. Finding the perfect child care providers with incredible backgrounds and experience with early child care education can be a challenge in our non-traditional environment. Making sure we are providing the best service to our customers while putting our business on the trajectory to scale and figuring out the best path to fundraising; these are just some of the challenges in running our start-up. What makes all of the struggle worth it is the fact that we are helping hundreds of parents every month get time for themselves to focus on their work without feeling the pain of splitting their attention between their careers and their children. And we benefit too! Our daughter is in our child care daily, while my husband and I work, she is on the playground being nurtured, taught, and socialized with our stellar care providers and tiny clients!
Wiggle & Work – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Wiggle & Work is a coworking space with on-demand child care for parents with babies as young as three months to 4 years old toddlers. We are one of the first in Los Angeles and one of only 30 coworking spaces around the world to provide childcare. We are privileged to have helped, in our first year, more than 1,000 families get work done while our professionals cared for and nurtured their children. From laptop-warriors who just needed a quiet space to re-focus to frazzled parent who just needs to zen-out, we are able to help every parent feel more themselves at one of the hardest times in parenthood. Watching parents breathe a sigh of relief as they lovingly hand off their child to our care providers and then escape to our coworking space or lounge, and then two hours later come down happy and ready to focus on their child — it just doesn’t get any better than that. I know, as a mother, my daughter Selah, loves our care providers and our space, and I can go and focus on growing our business and customer service while she is in expert hands learning, exploring and interacting with other children.
As a company, and family-run small business, our philosophy is to not just be affordable and accessible for any parent — but also to adapt to the ever-changing needs of our families. We’ve built a mobile booking app, wherein a few taps on their phones, can reserve 2,4 and even 6-hour coworking sessions, book the private talk box, our meeting or nap room, and know that we’ve got their backs. The coworking with the child care industry is brand new, and we are in a constant state of evolution to improve our services and the quality of the experience for parents and children at Wiggle & Work. I’m so proud of how we can continue to evolve to meet our clients’ needs, while maintaining the very best service.
