Today we’d like to introduce you to Mynka Morris
Hi Mynka, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey in fashion started young, with endless hours spent transforming Barbie clothes into unique outfits—a clear early sign of my love for styling. This passion only grew, leading me to formal studies at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, where I eagerly sought out every opportunity to learn. I volunteered on various projects and worked alongside seasoned stylists to sharpen my skills.
To deepen my expertise, I earned my Fashion Stylist Certification from the School of Style, which opened doors to assist top fashion stylists. I worked on exciting projects like music videos and high-profile campaigns, but I sensed something was missing. I longed to make a more personal impact with my work.
During a demanding music video shoot, it hit me—my true calling was to empower women freely and openly on a personal level through style, something the entertainment industry did not always allow. Determined to make a change, I reached out to my School of Style mentor, Lauren Messiah, who now leads an online personal styling certification program called Style Boss Academy (SBA). I joined the course along with her group coaching program. Reconnecting with her and joining the SBA community of passionate personal stylists inspired me to take my business to the next level.
This was when I truly expanded, bringing on clients from all over the U.S. through my virtual styling services, rather than just focusing on in person clients based in Los Angeles. I finally felt I was where I was meant to be: making a tangible difference in women’s lives. My journey reflects my deep commitment to using fashion as a tool for empowerment, and that mission remains at the heart of my brand today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Business is never easy, and starting my personal styling business has been a true test of resilience and adaptability. There have been times when the client flow was steady, and I felt on top of the world. But there were also quieter months, and that inconsistency can be challenging. Unlike a traditional job with a paycheck every two weeks, running a business means planning ahead, organizing my finances carefully, and being extremely mindful about budgeting and reinvesting in my business. Financial responsibility has been a huge lesson for me and one I’m continuously working to master.
At one point, I even had to return to a 9-to-5 job. It felt defeating initially, as if I was taking a step back, but I reminded myself it was only temporary. That steady paycheck allowed me to invest in my business during those early stages, keeping my dream alive even as I worked to build a foundation.
Then there’s the mental side of things—imposter syndrome is very real. I’ve caught myself wondering, “Why would anyone want to take style advice from me?” or doubting my abilities, even with all the training and experience I have. Self-doubt can creep in, especially when stepping into new levels of growth. But I’ve learned that these moments of discomfort are where the magic happens.
Each time I felt those fears bubbling up, I reminded myself that true growth doesn’t happen when we’re comfortable. Pushing through my fears, putting myself out there, and showing up for my clients even when I felt uncertain has made all the difference. The biggest shifts in my business—and in myself—came when I embraced that discomfort and didn’t let fear win.
The ups and downs of entrepreneurship have taught me to trust in my unique perspective, to remember why I started, and to keep pushing forward no matter what. Every challenge has reinforced my passion for styling and reminded me that I’m here to make a real impact.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work as a personal stylist centers around helping career-driven women discover and embrace their most powerful selves through style. I specialize in both virtual and in-person styling services, offering a seamless and supportive experience for clients everywhere, whether they’re in Los Angeles, across the country, or abroad.
My virtual styling process is designed to build a strong connection and truly understand each client’s unique needs, goals, and lifestyle. I begin each day reviewing client profiles and previous consultations, ensuring I’m fully prepared for our upcoming sessions. During our initial video consultation, I focus on active listening to capture their style preferences, career goals, and daily routines. This stage is crucial, as it sets the foundation for creating a wardrobe that reflects their aspirations.
With a deep understanding of each client’s needs, I curate personalized clothing and accessory options using virtual styling tools. This includes browsing online retailers and building digital lookbooks to offer diverse pieces that align with their tastes, budget, and lifestyle. The virtual fitting session is where we bring these curated selections to life. I guide clients through mixing and matching different pieces, creating versatile looks that empower them to step confidently into any setting. I welcome their feedback and fine-tune choices so they feel fully seen, heard, and celebrated in every outfit.
Beyond the session itself, I provide ongoing virtual support, sharing wardrobe organization tips, styling inspiration, and additional consultations to keep their style fresh and evolving. My goal is to cultivate not just confidence but a lasting sense of empowerment that extends far beyond the clothes themselves.
Clients often describe my personality as lively, approachable, and encouraging. I strive to create a positive and open space where clients feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and style dreams. My warmth and enthusiasm make the process fun and inspiring, and I believe that energy is a big part of what sets my services apart. Whether we’re discussing outfits over a video call or working together in person, I’m committed to making every interaction both transformative and enjoyable.
I am proud to empower women in such a meaningful way, helping them reflect their true selves through style and achieve their goals with confidence. It’s an honor to be part of their journey, supporting them in feeling not just stylish but truly unstoppable.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I owe so much of my success to an incredible support system of mentors, colleagues, friends, and family who’ve believed in me every step of the way. First and foremost, I want to thank Lauren Messiah. She’s been my mentor for nearly a decade and has guided me through the pivotal transition from fashion styling to personal styling. Her guidance has been instrumental in building a business that I can run from anywhere, and I genuinely wouldn’t have this dream job without her.
I’m also grateful for my Future CEOs accountability group, a powerhouse of women entrepreneurs who meet bi-weekly to discuss our wins, challenges, and roadblocks. They’ve become my sounding board and inspiration, offering insight, encouragement, and perspective that keep me motivated and on track.
A special shoutout goes to my stylist sister Empress Bey, who I met through Style Boss Academy. Empress has been such a cheerleader for me, and we support each other’s personal styling journeys every step of the way. It’s so empowering to have someone who truly understands the industry and celebrates my wins as much as I do hers.
Finally, I’d like to thank my friends and family. They’ve always been my biggest supporters, cheering me on through every venture, shift, and success. I feel blessed to have such a strong circle around me—it’s their unwavering belief in me that keeps me going, even when things get tough. I am deeply grateful for every single person who has been a part of this journey.
