Meet Mylene Chow of EPICycle Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mylene Chow.

Hi Mylene, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My husband, Andrew Chow, and I took two of our favorite things: Indoor cycling (Andrew has a passion for outdoor road cycling as well) and music. We wanted to create an environment and space where people can come in and “ride to the beat”, exercise, and have a fun and extraordinary time at the same time.

At the end of 2019, we decided to start an indoor cycling studio called EPICycle. The name EPICycle came to be because our goal for every class, every rider, and every aspect of our studio is to be “epic.” Every class is 45 minutes and designed to give riders an experience that challenges their full body and mind and encourages people to become their best self on and off the bike.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely was not a smooth road.

In Feb. 2020 we signed the lease in Rancho Cucamonga not knowing that in that month, the pandemic was going to affect us in every way possible. Everything was shut down and nobody knew what was going to happen and we did not know what to expect for the future of EPICycle.

Due to the pandemic, gyms were closed and we did not know how we were going to open. In September 2020, we took the leap and we made the decision to open outside. We are located at Haven City Market in Rancho Cucamonga and thankfully there was a patio we could use to do provide our classes outside. And that’s what we did. Every morning at 3am we would wake up, go to the studio, move all the tables and chairs, push out 16 bikes to the patio, and have 0ur morning classes. After the classes, we would move all the bikes back and put back the tables, benches and chairs. In the beginning, we started with only 16 bikes and eventually expanded to 32 bikes.

Being outside during the pandemic was actually beneficial for us. People were stuck at home, isolated, not able to go anywhere. Everything was closed. EPICycle being outside was a place where people could get out of their homes and go socialize, see their friends, and get a good workout at the same time. It was the place where people would hang out, and people loved coming and meeting new people who shared the same passion for exercising and passion for music. There were some hard times especially battling the weather. In the IE it gets pretty windy so we would have to cancel classes for safety. We would ride in the rain and ride while the sun would beat on our backs making the workout a lot of harder. We would even ride in 32-degree weather. But our riders still loved it and still showed up. We created this family and community that made it all worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of EPICycle Studio. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
EPICycle Studio is a boutique indoor cycling studio who specializes in indoor cycling classes.

Every class is 45 minutes and designed to give riders an experience that challenges their full body and mind and encourages people to become their best self on and off the bike.

We give a full-body indoor cycling workout with choreography, and we even use arm weights in the ride as well. We give complimentary cycling shoes to use for every ride and even cold eucalyptus towels at the end of the ride that riders use to cool down. We provide complimentary cycling shoes because we want riders to get the BEST experience in their workout. Using cycling shoes and clipping into the bike will improve your form and really changes the way your leg muscles engage throughout each pedal stroke.

In our studio, we have incredible instructors that motivate you and push you to be the best you can be on and off the bike. They have the best playlists and choreography that get riders singing a long and dancing on the bike. We have upbeat and uplifting music, the room is filled with party, club, and good vibes with lights that adds to the intense but amazing workout. Our goal was to not make exercising something to be “dreaded” but fun, exciting, and to celebrate our bodies and be proud of how it can move and what it can do.

One of the reasons why EPICycle is so EPIC is our community. Every single one of the riders who walk through our doors are part of our family. We get to know our riders on a deeper level with one of our main goals was to know every single person by name every time they walk in the studio. EPICycle is not just a place to ride but to spend time with our family after class and before class. At EPICycle, we ride to the beat as a team, as a unit, and together. We are your neighbors, your family, your home, and we have one of the best communities you could find. We are so grateful to have riders who uplift each other up and encourage each other to be the best they can be on and off the bike.

Our goal is for riders to trust their body and push themselves to get out of that comfort zone. To believe they can do anything they can put their mind to. We are not a big company nor a franchise. While we are a small business that started as a small dream, we operate with a big heart and even bigger vision to leave a positive thumbprint in our community and change the way Rancho Cucamonga sweats. Our instructors, the community, and every single person that steps into our space with determination and our values, acceptance, and love is what makes EPICycle who we are.

We have a shower and lockers for riders to use. We offer also offer natural juices, energy drinks, and water in our fridge.

We offer theme rides! R&B rides, Alternative Rock, 80’s rides, early 2000s, twerky rides, etc! Our riders dress up for these rides and just have a great time with amazing playlists!

We offer challenges as well. Monthly bingos, insanity weeks, etc!

We provide complimentary cycling shoes, towels on each bike, and also a filtered water dispenser so all you need to bring is a water bottle, yourself, and positive energy! If you have your own cycling shoes, feel free to bring your own. Our bike pedals are SPD and LOOK Delta compatible.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Our most important characteristic is making our riders feel like family. That everyone single one of the riders we get to know on a deeper level. Everyone who walks through our doors is important and our goal is that even though people may come to ride by themselves, they will feel they’re riding with family and with their team. Community at EPICycle is important and nobody gets left behind.

Every single one of the riders are amazing in their own way. Everyone is a piece of a puzzle. Every piece is different but comes together and creates a team that fits all together, riding to the beat as one.
