Today we’d like to introduce you to Mykaella
Mykaella, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am from Harlem, New York. When I was younger, I always wanted to be a teacher so I became a mentor for youth summer programs. As I continued to grow, I became fascinated with the entertainment field, particularly filmmaking. At the age of 14, I wrote and produced my first short family film while attendance at the Drew Hamilton After-school program. It was one of the best experiences for me.
As a New Yorker, I am a natural hustler and possess a strong work ethic. I had my first job at the age of twelve. During college, I started a radio show called “Midnight with Mickey” which became a hit and increased my interest in the world of entertainment. After graduation, I had the opportunity to work as an intern for NBC and BET Network.
As a result of these experiences, I decided to move to Los Angeles. It was here where I got the opportunity to work at a casting studio where I was involved in the casting process for commercials. Currently, I work in Sports Management where I assist with day-to-day activities of entertainment and sports figures.
Today, I truly feel that no dream is too big or too small. If you believe in yourself and have faith, anything is possible. This is just the beginning!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not! My journey hasn’t been easy but it has been worth every step of the way. It took much courage for me to move from New York to Los Angeles leaving what felt most comfortable. Most of all, I was fearful of the unknown moving to a new state starting over. Trusting God, taking a leap of faith and stepping outside of my comfort zone was exactly what I needed in order to further prosper and grow. I’ve had many moments throughout these few years which have been difficult.
I have struggled throughout this journey many times feeling like I’m not doing enough and thinking was this the right move for me.
Ultimately that moment of living and taking a leap of faith was all I needed. Living in Los Angeles for almost four years now has been an incredible journey with a season full of blessings, difficulties, new experiences, and many lessons which has shaped who I am today.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Currently, I am known for my organizational skills. My process consists of my morning routines of clearing my head with meditation. Then detailing the task at hand in order to make sure everything runs smoothly. I have also noticed how important it is not being ashamed of asking others for help in order to execute effectively. Should that include hiring interns or staff in general. My skill set has helped in personal and business relationships. I am determined and always ready to take on the next task.
(My goal is to launch an initiative/program that will focus on youth development and social engagement.)
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was raised by a single mother. She constantly reminded me to always do my best and that anything was possible because hard work always paid off. I am who I am today because of my mother.
Most of my qualities, I attribute to her. I was both an extrovert and introvert. I was a social butterfly, extremely helpful, quite dramatic (due to my love for Acting). Today, I am still creative and headstrong.
During my childhood years, I was both athletic and artsy. I ran track and played basketball in high school. I also enjoyed performing, directing and writing my own plays. This was, by far, one of the highlights growing up.
As a part of giving back, I volunteered at youth camps during the summer. Additionally in college, I started a donation drive where I collected clothes and other donations fellow students donated to the less fortunate in the community.
I leave you with this. Believe in yourself, remain faithful, and continue to work hard. Anything is possible.
