Meet Chat Ketanont of Muscle Activation LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chat Ketanont.

Chat, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
If you’ve ever had an injury before, then you can probably agree that being in pain really sucks!

My career started as a former athlete in my youth, and I always had a passion for understanding the human body. Naturally, I decided to pursue both a B.S. and M.S. in Exercise Science, with the goal of becoming the best athletic trainer in Southern California.

However, a dark cloud loomed over my dreams after I sustained a series of my own sports injuries. Here was the cold realization: even with everything I had learned from school as a professional, I still wasn’t able to train or treat my own body effectively to avoid injuries and pain!

I realized at the moment that traditional schooling didn’t provide the right tools and education necessary to treat and train the human body the right way. That’s when I realized there needed to be a change in the way the orthopedic industry and physical therapy industry operated.

There are way too many surgeons overprescribing invasive procedures for conditions that could be easily treated with the right treatment and exercises. There were way too many physical therapists treating people with a one-size-fits-all approach. The result? People weren’t feeling better (including me!)

That’s when I started my journey towards finding the most holistic solution for treating and training the human body.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Athletic training is one of the most competitive industries in the United States. On top of that, being based in Los Angeles, where there’s a microscope on everybody’s health and fitness, the journey to create Muscle Activation Los Angeles was the ultimate bumpy roller coaster ride.

I really had to start thinking outside of the box to find alternative methods for treating and training the human body the right way. I spent 2 decades of flying all over the country, taking multiple continuing education courses and searching for the best treatment and training solution for orthopedic injuries.

The result? One of the hardest things I had to do was “undo” the biases that I had acquired from traditional or “popular” exercise science ideologies.

The next hardest part was educating my clients. From the perspective of a client, it’s difficult to hear that some things you may have innocently been doing all your life may actually be setting you up for injury in the future. With so many fitness magazines and blogs throwing information everywhere, it’s difficult to figure out who to trust and what to believe.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Muscle Activation LA story. Tell us more about the business.
The business, Muscle Activation Los Angeles, is the holistic treatment and training solution I wish I had when I was injured. I would have saved so much time instead of bouncing around from different doctors to different therapists (who often had no solution).

One of the best things to hear from my clients is, “I finally feel better!” Most of my clients have been everywhere looking for a solution, so it’s nice to know that my work is changing the lives of people in a good way.

Although the majority of clients in my practice have some sort of nagging issue they want to fix, I see a variety of clients every day, ranging from professional athletes to Silicon Beach entrepreneurs to the Soul Cycle warrior. We especially see a lot of people where traditional therapies or exercises haven’t worked, or people looking for a more holistic solution from the get-go.

The second part of my business that I have recently started is educating the community. My website blog provides easy information on holistic ways that clients can take better care of themselves, outside of just physical fitness.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe in creating your own luck by turning every obstacle into an opportunity.

Early on in my career, I had the opportunity to experience what it feels like to be in a situation where I was in pain and nobody could help me.

In that sense, I may have been unlucky at the moment I was injured. However, when I look back at it now, it might be one of the luckiest things that ever happened to me because it motivated to find a better solution than what the world was offering me at that time.
