Meet Munzir Mukhtar of Phoenix Interactive in Malibu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Munzir Mukhtar.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Munzir. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started doing 3D design as a hobby and a creative outlet. I also always loved fashion and style and wanted to get involved in that realm somehow.

After realizing that classrooms are not an effective way for me to learn and develop my skills. I dropped out of college in San Diego and took my first flight out of California to New York to discover new areas involving my interest.

I suddenly realized the harsh reality of choosing freedom over comfort when I ended up homeless in NY with no money or phone for four months. It was a hard time in my life but I didn’t want to go back home, it was a combination of not wanting to go back home a loser and a lust for my newly found freedom, no matter how hard things were, I was still able to wake up every day with complete control over my 24 hours and what I wanted to spend them on. It is – and still is – an addicting feeling.

I chose to divide my time between roaming the city, going to modeling castings and watching online tutorials to develop my 3D animation skills. Since fashion and 3d was all I cared about, I started combing the two by creating 3d content for fashion brands I liked and posting them on Instagram, mostly for fun but hoping they would see it and want to hire me.

I stayed consistent and eventually brands took notice and started throwing me small gigs. I also walked my first runway around that time in 2018. I was barely floating financially but I loved what I do and kept doing it.

Soon after, I started to teach myself augmented reality on unity and used it to make my services more valuable.

By the time 2019 came around, I was getting recognition from my idols, Nike and Virgil Abloh and some of my favorite artists were reaching out to me.

Today, I’m building my own team under the name “Phoenix Interactive” to grow my business into a fully functioning operation.

Has it been a smooth road?
Independency and financial instability were my biggest obstacles but they taught me that as long as I’m still alive and still fighting, I can always change that.

But my biggest struggle was not having a clear path to follow. I didn’t really know anyone who did what I do, no mentors, and no education.

So, most of the time, it felt like I was walking in the dark. But that’s what I found to be fun. I mean do you want to watch a movie you already know the ending to?

We’d love to hear more about your work.
We are content and application creators mainly working with brands and businesses in the fashion and music culture to help them establish their brand’s image in new and exciting ways.

We build augmented reality, Virtual Reality, 3D animation, mobile games, Instagram and SnapChat face filters, interactive and VR websites, and everything else in that realm.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes! LA is the place to be if your work is even remotely around entertainment… or good food!
