Meet Moritz Falk of Mo Falk

Today we’d like to introduce you to Moritz Falk.

Moritz, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born into a musical family, mostly focused on classical music and acoustic instruments. Growing up in Germany, I learned to play the piano, the cello, the bassoon and the drums but ended up sticking with only playing drums at age ten.

During my teenage years, my family was moving around Europe due to my dad’s work. This exposed me to a lot of new cultures and made me realize I needed to distance myself from the whole acoustic music-making and go more towards an electronic production focused work.

During my last high school years, I had a friend who was big into dance music and production. He showed me how to use the software to make music at the time and sent me all the packs and stuff I needed to get started. It would still take another four years of hard work and learning new production skills until I would get my first release on a big label, which was HEXAGON.

Don Diablo stumbled across my demo by some lucky coincidence and decided it was worth a spot in his 6th label EP. This release really started putting me in the spotlight. Other labels started approaching me and asked if I had music for them too. This eventually leads to a few exclusive label contracts which I fortunately was able to decline since they would have bound me to a specific label which I only realized now wouldn’t have been the best.

The next two years, I just kept grinding, developing my artistic sound and growing a small following on Instagram and other socials through consistent and frequent releases on high profile labels and through big collaborations. Being really interested in marketing and branding as well, I am now, since one year, really focusing on creating a strong and engaged fanbase to share my music and other stuff with 🙂

Lately, with the corona epidemic, I had to look for a way to stay busy and started live streaming on twitch. This was amazing because the interactivity of my fans began to rise and rise. the fan identity strongly grew from a fanbase to a family of like-minded “FALKENS” 🙂

The craziest thing is that right now, I am working on collaborations with some of the biggest talents of the industry and people I have been looking up to my entire life.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was mostly a smooth road, but of course there were times where I wasn’t sure this was anything for me. Especially in the beginning, I used to face a lot of rejection from labels and other artists. Obviously that was all well and understandable, but at the time it was making me really unsure about my life goals and if I would even be able to reach them with so many people rejecting my music…. This still occurs now, but eventually my self-esteem and trust in my production abilities grew and now I am able to stand my ground and stand up to criticism in a constructive way and not get sucked down by it 🙂

So most of the struggles were psychological and self-inflicted 😀

My family and friends were always 100% behind me and supportive like madlads! Especially my girlfriend who always had my back to do what makes me happy and my best friend who was always there to teach me some new sound design techniques or talk shop about the industry 🙂

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
Well, my company is myself. Being an artist making electro dance music! I try to combine my classical (almost jazzy) roots with modern sound design for energetic and fast-paced dance tunes.

I’m most known for my hard-hitting bass tracks and clear and crisp sound design. Also for a whole bunch of weird music memes 😀

I’M very proud about my artistic journey that went from basic dance music to a very specified unique style and building a loyal fanbase around that.

I would not say much sets me apart, but probably my clever marketing and well trained psychological and rhetorical skills that come in very handy connecting with new people and putting myself in the spotlight when I really shouldn’t be or wasn’t meant to be ;D Also, there is something about my music that is different from others, but that is just feedback I’ve received from others, I don’t actually think its that crazy haha.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am currently looking to make my very own merchandise collection. I have huge plans for this clothing line and hope to make it my little baby 😀 the idea is to create something that will be cool to wear for normal (non-fan) people even if they don’t know who I am and create some form of blend between futuristic and retro design choices… Hopefully, strengthening my brand identity and creating a more rooted fan community and identity they can show and present themselves to others with.

I stand for honesty and kindness amongst all humans, and I want to inspire people to think the same, get as far away from any racial or other discrimination and more towards an all-inclusive society. This already happens where my fam community has a strong bond between each other and support and help where possible. I hope to expand this as much as I can through this merch and everything else I do 🙂

In terms of music, I am aiming to work with even bigger artists to create tracks that will reach a very large audience and inspire as many people as possible to be good humans … whatever that means hahaha 😀 <3
