Meet Morgan Dorr

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Dorr.

Morgan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up near Boston, and a town full of people who wanted to beat you up if you weren’t like them. So, what did I do? I tried to be like that. It hindered my life and my creativity and my growth. It wasn’t until I found a guitar underneath my dad ‘s bed and learned about him recording an album in Jamaica with Bob Marley and his life as a touring musician. I caught the bug. I fiddled around in the world until I found my place. About six years ago I was lucky enough to sign a publishing deal with Sony ATV Which has made it possible for me to truly find myself.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No. The music industry is extremely difficult to break into. People, after you, people come after your money. And then once you think you’re smooth sailing, you just might happen to doubt yourself that day. It seems like everything is in the dumps. Then, you hear a sentence, or have a thought, or sing melody and just like that, boom. You’re inspired. One song can change your life.

Highland park collective. – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Highland park collective is a revolving door of singers, producers, musicians as well as visual artists. Our most recent venture is a unique furniture and home decor company @oakandashstudio. It’s nice to get out of the recording software and use your eyes and hands. I think what sets us apart from other entities in the music world is we’re not afraid to lose money one month. We just want to make fun things that inspire us. Sometimes that just happens to be what selling at the market Place. If it isn’t that month then hopefully next month.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
This might sound cheesy. I had just landed a song in the jeep Super Bowl commercial. A few days later when I walked into what I thought was a meeting with Brian Monaco (Sony/ATV) A lot of the LA office and More were there Hooting and hollering. Everyone was so happy and so friendly, it just felt like a big family dinner.
