Meet Morgan Burton of Morgasm in West Hollywood/Melrose Fairfax District

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Burton.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Morgan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Passion for gender free expression through fashion, reflecting the moment in time where the world is finally open to non-binary inclusivity allowed the space for me to start Morgasm. Morgasm is a gender free, all-inclusive streetwear fashion brand with non-binary collections for adults and kids. I started by creating custom apparel and accessories that represent my personal style and what I see missing in today’s fashion industry for those who don’t identify with hetero-normative traditionally gendered style clothing. Shortly after the launch of Morgasm, a kids line was added for non-binary parents and children who don’t want pink and blue clothing corresponding to a child’s assigned sex at birth. Luckily now more children are being raised by open parents who let their children chose who they want to be & how they want to dress.

Since I’ve always been known to have a sense of style, as voted most unique in School, becoming a fashion designer was natural evolution of my career and life. Three years ago, after working over for a decade in fashion, specializing in denim, I decided to bridge the gap in fashion and music to create Morgasm.

Music is my muse. I am a DJ still at heart. Morgasm is actually my old DJ name. I used to spin vinyl records and throw a monthly party that brought together like-minded folks. Bringing the same idea to hosting in the shop, play good tunes, create a groovy environment and invite them to come take a spin around the dance floor!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Becoming an entrepreneur and starting a business from scratch came with many challenges, especially in generating capital. Being self-made and having no investors has made for very slow, gradual growth. Navigating the obstacles of a new business owner has not been easy, but my passion for gender free streetwear and hand treated tie-dye style custom apparel motivated me to keep going and build the Morgasm brand into what it is today.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Morgasm – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Morgasm is a gender-free streetwear brand with an emphasis on hand treatments and customized pieces. Music is part of the DNA of the brand and is the common thread throughout the collections, along with pop art and fashion. Many one of one’s pieces pay homage to music icons, fashion designers and iconic artists. The goal of each piece is to create wearable art, giving customers the opportunity to express themselves without gender stereotypes.

Even though I’m very proud of igniting a fashion trend with hand treated athleisure, bringing tie-dye apparel to the runways and the pages of Vogue, I am most proud of the safe place Morgasm provides for its customers. As a permanent vendor at The Melrose Trading Post for the last three years, customers come by weekly to experience and feel included in the brand that celebrates everyone for who they are, regardless of how they identify. Making custom pieces for artists and individuals to express who they are has unintentionally made me a Real life street style influencer. With the outlet of Melrose every Sunday. As a second-generation California queer, I can attest to a culture and time that was not always so accepting and inclusive, even in a place as progressive as LA. That’s why it is so important to me to create a safe space for all people.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Upcoming Fashion show in early October here in Los Angeles for the second annual Equality Fashion Week. The brand is growing with strong local and global customer relationships, my goal is to take it on the road and build Morgasm’s presence in other markets like New York and San Francisco.
