Meet Morgan Bostwick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Bostwick.

Morgan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a nurse, wife, mom, and entrepreneur. I lost my mother at a very young age of 11 years old she was killed by a drunk driver. It was many moons ago however, whenever I wanted or needed photos of my mom I only had the same four pictures. I think that’s when my obsession with photos begin. I always wanted to make sure I had photos to capture every memory.

I took photography in high school but it was always just a hobby. Right now in my phone, I have 10,500 pictures and videos in my phone. I have 14 albums and a dozen frames on the wall. I’m literally obsessed with pictures. They make me so happy.

So how I got started professionally is one day I was at my cousin’s house Helping her model some clothes for her clothing line she was taking pictures with her cell phone and they were horrible. She wasn’t getting anybody’s good angles the lighting wasn’t good I hated at all. So I hijacked her cell phone photo shoot and made the best of her pictures. I was posing people adjusting them fixing their hair etc. my cousin loved her photos and a few people there asked me why I don’t do it professionally. Literally the next weekend, I went out and bought a camera and started my business. I knew nothing about photography as far as lighting, settings, etc. I got a few people to let me take their pictures and became obsessed.

I ended up taking a shooting and editing course found some great people to follow and learn from as well a wonderful person (fellow photographer) to take me under their wing. I have a lot to learn and a long way to go but I can’t wait to see my growth and also to help others who are aspiring photographers.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I did my business all backward I am the type of a person if I want something I go for it and figure it out along the way. Although that’s not necessarily the wrong way it just paves the way for more challenges not having all the information upfront. Lighting is a big part of pictures so nailing lighting was a challenge without taking a course first also editing boy I hated editing I felt like I spent weeks behind the screen fixing all my problems haha but once I learned the more u get it right in camera the less you spend in post editing and get your life back it became more enjoyable.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a natural light photographer. I specialize in portraits, family, maternity couples and lifestyle photography. I think what sets me apart from other photographers is my ability to be a good critic. I know what’s going to make you look your best and feel your best (we all know when we look good, we feel good); my clients are always so thankful for me redirecting them (Whether that be their posing their arm their stance, etc.) Not just that I will go above and beyond for your kids to make them smile I will bring bubbles whoopy cushions whatever to get your kids to smile. I’ve even done a woman’s makeup to help her out at no charge because she said she wasn’t good at that stuff and it’s been a while since she felt pretty. And let me tell you the text I got afterwords saying she never felt this good in photos in years was enough payment for me because that’s what it’s all about making others feel good and be happy. That feeds my soul.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
