Meet Monica Young

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Young.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my blog when my son was little as a way to keep a journal of our experiences, and then after posting a few blog posts, I started getting invitations to events and to pretty cool places. I am very passionate about health, so I talk a bit about it on my blog, however, people tend to like to see me covering travel, food, and entertainment. As my son has gotten older, I am transitioning more about solo traveling and I want to soon start covering things you can enjoy as an adult in Los Angeles with friends or by yourself

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wish I could say it was smooth, but there is so much to learn about blogging. It is not just writing and hoping that someone reads your posts, you need to learn about social media, SEO, pitching, etc. Initially, a lot of things landed on my email, but as more and more people are blogging, now, you have to reach out to brands on your own to get invitations or campaigns.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have what you can call a 9-5 job in healthcare, which I keep separate from my social media presence. That is what you can call my “private” life. In my spare time, I blog and have been in the blogosphere for more than 10 years. I am not famous, however, sometimes people that follow me, especially Disney fans, recognize me and come to me to say hi, or take pictures with me. It is both cool and intimidating.

I am proud of calling myself a down-to-earth blogger. I present myself as a busy mom that loves to keep it real. You will not see pictures of recipes that look like taken by a professional. My recipes look like it would probably look in your kitchen, but hey trust me, they are delicious.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in Colombia (the country) and moved to the US in 2002. You can say I am living the American dream. I love education and I am passionate about healthcare issues. Some of them are controversial, like vaccines and healthcare for all, but when I approach them on social media, I do it with respect so I do not get a lot of trolls. I enjoy traveling and learning about new cultures. Foodie that loves to try new dishes, even the ones most people wouldn’t try. Adventurous, not only with food, I also love extreme sports.
